VR6OC News Bot 30
According to Mazda Design Director Kevin Rice, a production version of the gorgeous two-door, two-seat, rotary-powered RX Vision could still happen Speaking to Top Gear at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’Este – where the concept was displayed, Rice hinted that the RX-Vision concept would head to production if people are willing to buy it. He confirmed that the RX-Vision’s hood was designed specifically to accommodate one type of engine – rotary. “Nobody else would have developed the rotary engine,” says Kevin. “We thought we could get something good out of it, which we did, but we never stopped developing it. We didn’t just leave it with the RX-8 and in the back rooms at Mazda, we’re still developing it and we’re confident that we can overcome the rotary engine drawbacks. When the world’s ready to buy another rotary, we’ll be ready to provide it.” Therefore, we can make a conclusion that Japanese company wants to see how many people would actually buy the RX-Vision and if there’s enough demand, it’s going to happen. However, he admitted that is going to be a very difficult challenge ensuring economically viable rotary-powered cars. Mr Kevin Rice also has revealed that the inspiration for the gorgeous coupe comes from Italian sports cars from the 60s and 70s, which as he says, were “pure, very clean and very exciting,” compared to today’s “busier” car designs. The concept was displayed last weekend at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’Este, and according to latest rumors that emerged on the internet, the Japanese company is working on a new turbocharged rotary engine which is believed to deliver more than 400hp. The car’s name (RX-9) is not confirmed yet, and most likely will be launched in 2020 when Mazda is going to celebrate its 100th anniversary. View the full article
