An ultra-rare 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi will be auctioned at Silverstone Auctions. The famous “22B” was introduced in 1998 for Subaru’s 40th anniversary and to celebrate third consecutive World Rally Championship constructors title (1995,1996,1997). Subaru has built only 400 units, which make it one of the rarest and most wanted Subarus of all-time. The vehicle was only sold online and apparently sold out in 30 minutes. The 22B-STi is powered by 2.2-liter turbocharged Boxer engine that delivers 280hp/206kW at 6000 rpm and 360Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque at 3200 rpm. The DOHC engine had a closed-deck design with a different block than the existing Subaru 2.2-liters as well as had higher turbo boost and high-performance heads that allowed better flow. All cars were finished off in 555 Blue color and come with wide-arched body inspired by the actual WRC cars. The car features Bilstein suspension, Brembo brakes, an upgraded clutch with a ceramic disc and Subaru’s full-time all-wheel-drive. There’s also a unique bonnet, front and rear bumpers and a one-off adjustable rear wing. This particular unit is number 307 and only had one owner, the famous boxer Prince Naseem Hamed. The car has only 2,500 miles on the odometer and just received a full service (including belts) at specialists, Roger Clark Motorsport of Leicestershire, in December 2015. The headrests with his unique logo and name, as well as a special number plate featuring “WRC” are also included in the sale of this Lot. This extremely rare 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi will hit the auction block at the Silverstone circuit on 20 May, and Silverstone Auctions expects it to sell for between £60,000 – £70,000 ($85,000-$99,000).
