VR6OC News Bot 30
The ’97 Impreza WRC with chassis number 3 driven by the legendary Colin McRae is up for sale. The rally car made its first public debut at the Monte Carlo Rally in January 1997 and was driven by the brilliant duo McRae and Grist. The 1997 year was important for rally history, as it was the first season when Group A was partially replaced by the World Rally Car (WRC). The race for the Drivers’ championship was very tight, but at the end Finnish legend Tommi Mäkinen won the title by a single point ahead of Colin McRae, while Subaru won the Manufacturers’ title. After the season, the car was sold. In 1998 the car was used by the Polish rally driver and multiple Dakar Rally participants Krzysztof Holowczyc in four rounds of the World Rally Championship: Portugal, Argentina, San Remo and Spain. In 2008 and 2009, the car was completely restored and brought to the present state. Under the hood is a four cylinder 2.0-liter boxer engine that delivers more than 300 hp at 5,500 rpm. It’s matched to sequential gearbox that sends engine’s power to all four wheels. Also, this was the last rally Impreza not to use a gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. The car technically is in perfect condition and ready for use, and is now up for sale at Mohr Klassik GmbH in Boblingen, Germany. The price has not been published.
