Showcased in U.S for the first time at the New York International Auto Show last week, the XC90 Excellence offers a level of of luxury and comfort not previously seen in the company’s offerings. Unlike other XC90 models that have seven seats, the Excellence has just four seats. The additional space is utilized to offer a more comfort for rear seat passengers. So in the back of the cabin, Volvo added individual reclining seats with massage, ventilation and heating. Other highlights include retractable control touchscreen, a refrigerator with a bottle and glass holders, a heating/cooling cup holder, folding tables and handmade crystal glasses from the glass design company, Orrefors. The model has been also equipped with Nappa leather upholstery, open-pore wood and Orrefors crystal gear shifter. A rear partition separates the passenger compartment from the cargo area to ensure ultra-quiet environment to enjoy the 20-speaker, 1400-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system. The XC90 Excellence is powered exclusively by T8 Twin-Engine Plug-in Hybrid Electric powertrain. The setup consists of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 9.2 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery, good for 400 hp and 472 pound-feet (640 Nm) of torque, which is a big boost over the base XC90, which delivers only 250 horsepower. The XC90 Excellence meets the same stringent safety standards as the XC90 R-Design, T8 Inscription and Momentum. Prices for the XC90 Excellence model start at $105,895.
