VR6OC News Bot 30
Mazda has pulled the wraps off the MX-5 Retractable Fastback (RF) at 2016 New York International Auto Show. Japanese automaker once again pleasantly surprised the fans of the iconic roadster, whereas the previous MX-5 has a Power Retractable Hardtop, the new MX-5 RF features a fastback styling with a smooth roofline that slopes down to the car’s rear. The roof opens and closes with the touch of a button while moving at speeds of up to 6 mph (10 km/h) and stows right behind the rear seats. Despite the sleek design, the MX-5 RF still offers the same boot space as in the standard soft top at 4.5 cubic (feet130 liters). Like the soft-top, the MX-5 RF in Europe will be available with a choice of two gasoline engines, the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 and SKYACTIV-G 2.0. These two engines can be mated either to with a six-speed manual transmission or exclusively for the MX-5 RF a six-speed automatic. In United States it will be available only with the Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter, that delivers 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque in the soft-top variant. The RF also comes with a re-tuned suspension and steering system. The MX-5 RF also will feature a selection of body colours, including Machine Grey specially designed for this model. The MX-5 RF is on display at the New York International Auto Show, while the other technical specification and prices will be announced closer to market launch later this year.
