Chevrolet has officially revealed first photos and preliminary technical details of the 2017 Camaro ZL1
Poised to challenge the most advanced sports coupes in the world, the new Camaro ZL1 features an aggressive front end with a larger lower grille to provide more airflow, all-new hood with a heat extractor and a larger front splitter. Combined with an aggressive side skirts wider front fenders and a large rear wing the 2017 Camaro ZL1 looks really badass. It rides on unique 20-inch forged aluminum wheels that measure 285/30ZR20 at the front and 305/30ZR20 at the rear shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires that were developed exclusively for the model.
The exterior design clearly indicates that under the hood lies a powerful machine – a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine estimated at 640 hp (477 kW) and 640 lb-ft (868 Nm) of torque. All of that power will be channeled to either a six-speed manual or long-awaited 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. It features a 7.39 overall ratio for smaller steps between gears, enabling the LT4 V-8 unit to remain optimal rpm levels during acceleration. Six-piston Brembos with two-piece rotors make sure a driver can control so much power.

The ZL1 comes also equipped with a suite of performance technologies tailored for street and track. It features a Magnetic Ride suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, Performance Traction Management, Driver Mode Selector and Custom Launch Control. Although the ZL1 is more sophisticated and offers approximately 60 more hp and and 80 lb-ft of torque, Chevy says the ZL1 will be 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin comes equipped with standard Recaro front seats, a plenty of ZL1 badging, red contrast stitching, an optional Performance Data Recorder and a suede flat-bottom steering wheel and shift knob.
More information on this model will be known next week at the New York Auto Show where the new ZL1 will have its world premiere.
