Therusterman 59
Just been browsing around on vagcat, looking to see if there is cover for the end of the gearbox (just like there is for the power steering pump) and found a listing for undertrays, but nothing is listed for the vr6.Has anyone fitted one of these before? Do they need adapting, and do they fit in place of the covers already in place for the power steering pump (items 7 and 9).
Lukey. 381
I have all of the undertrays fitted to mine apart from no. 7 but the big undertray covers the gearbox end area anyway. No. 3 is mostly from diesels (if wanting one best place is eBay searching for a mk3 diesel undertray) and they do need a bit of adaption to fit round the VR6 sump as its in a slightly different place. I have actually cut off nearly the whole PAS pump side but I do have the side trays aswell which act as an anchor on that side. If you look here http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?344740.160 on the middle if the page you will see what I did to get it to fit.
michael5556 247
I'm sure I read somewhere that with the full undertray you gain more mpg out of it due to aerodynamics etc...
Lukey. 381
I would say I may get 1 or 2 more if I'm going a distance at speed like motorway, but round town it doesn't make much difference. The biggest difference I've noticed is higher speed cornering, the front feels more solid, less floaty which I've seen others mention this too with full under plastics. The good thing in the colder weather is that the engine warms up quicker and stays warmer for longer, if I park up for an hour or 2 at the gym the engine oil can still register 50'C. I think this is the biggest attribution to fuel economy.
