Ear piercing whistle on vacuum with short runner.

Recommended Posts

Only since i've put short runner and got turbo running, i have an ear piercing noise coming from the throttle body area.

i've taken it off and sealed the gasket and no luck. i can't work out where it's coming from and it does it also with boost pipes disconnected from throttle body.

inlet manifold was made by a chap on here, and i can't see or feel any cracks. ran finger all round seals with no variation in noise.

sounds like a whistle kettle but miles louder. anyone else ever had this?

Sorry Craig, the kettle is now off the boil!! After 2 hours just today and numerous times since Sunday, I finally found it. Everyone who's seen it and heard it was totally convinced it was throttle body related, thinking is could be the valve inside or a pin hole leak somewhere.

Turns out it was the inlet manifold to heat gasket! The far right of the gasket was leaking but such a terrible noise I couldn't pinpoint it. I found out eventually that it was there by chucking a piece of rag on top of the injectors, and the squeal got quieter. Rag over throttle body and no difference at all.

So after a lot of listing through pipes it's all sorted, for the moment anyway!

And the turbo is a Garrett gt3582r by the way.
