russj249 2
Have you unhooked the handbrake cable before anything else. it could be down to cable so before i suggest ways to free it up, take the handbrake cable off and see if the lever springs back.if it does it's the cable, if not the calipes.if both are ok and it's not caused by handbrake it could be a few things such as seized piston, seized caliper sliders, or maybe down to a collapsed flexy acting as a 1 way valve almost. you'd tell this by trying to push piston in as it is and if it doesn't go back, open the bleed nipple and try again.if it goes back it's more than likely flexy, if it still doesn't it's seized caliper. hope this helps. b19drg 0
Thanks Russ most helpful , of it is the calipers , can it just be stripped and cleaned ?
legvw 0
The rear caliper piston won't just push back in, it requires a caliper re-wind tool as the work on a rachet. Might be worth upgrading to mk4 rears as they are less prone to seizing.
b19drg 0
will mk4 calipers fit straight on , and do they take different pads ?
craggsy 91
I'd just change em to mk4s as paul says. Straight swap too
russj249 2
Oh yes forgot to mention about screwing the rear calipers in.. but yea, as above, if it is the calipers that are seized just get the mk4's as a replacement pair.
