MOT coming up - help needed - Exhaust cat

Recommended Posts

My track car is due for its MOT in the next few weeks and I normally get PSI in Stoke to send it to their place for it as they understand modified cars.

Called in today to discuss a few things and they informed me that the MOT station now won't pass de-catted cars.

As my car is de-catted it will automatically fail.

So, has anyone either got a VR6 cat that I could borrow for the MOT test in the Staffordshire area in the next 10 days ( I would collect and return following the MOT test, or got a cat for sale?

take the car somewere else,i took mine in last week but before getting it inspected i told the bloke about the decat and i said its pointless giving you any money if the emissions will fail,he said dont worrie i can alter the emissions to suit the decat legally and the outcome was a pass and in most cases a decat will pass anyway if the engines sweet, you need to find a suitable inspection mot bloke who does his job properly and does mots only not quotes and repairs hense you get a honiest opion and hes not out to rip you off,you will find someone mate dont bother messing with cats

I've got a spare vr cat if your interested in buying it.

From experience, cars made on and after 1993 MUST have a cat to pass an mot, regardless of emissions.

As i say, this is just me, using different mot places and different cars 1993 or above, and trying to get an mot without a cat.

Hi Paul, thats great,

Just a quick check before going ahead, what year is it from as mine is '94 but with an OBD2 engine swap.

I presume they are all the same from '93 to '97.

I know I had an issue with the lamda before.

Does it come with the lamda still attached?

Have you got a pic of the cat at all?

Many thanks for your help.

Ian
