legvw 0
Did you put the rings on the pistons the right way up? It can't be good news if the plugs are getting that oily.
Pearsy47 1
yep i made sure on the rings being the right way up plus they have them written on them ! im really confused on the whole thing ! ?
bungy 2
Is it worth doing a compression test?
Pearsy47 1
Is it worth doing a compression test?if i do a compression test i should be looking at 11bar on all of them shouldn t i ? and if it aint then it can t be rings suring not ?
bungy 2
Without knowing the exacts i'd be tempted to do a compression test and compare the six readings. Obviously they should be the same but differences could point towards the fault....

bungy 2
How many miles have you done since the rebuild?
Pearsy47 1
about 180 i would say ruffly !
bungy 2
A leak down test would direct you more accurately to the fault.
Pearsy47 1
ok would you say best to get that done at a garage or do it meself >?? lol
bungy 2
You'll need some compressed air or a compressor with a connection like on your compression tester."As to why do a leakdown test, that can often tell more data than acompression test because you can find out what part of your engine isn'tholding up. If you hear hissing in the intake, it's your intake valves notseating. If you listen to the exhaust pipe and hear hissing it's yourexhause valves. If you can't hear either it's your rings. If you hear aircoming out of the side of the motor you have a serious problem."
legvw 0
I wouldn't have thought those reading were too bad tbh.Try what Marks suggested and go from there. What type of h/g did you use?
bungy 2
I'm not saying a leak down test is a perfect diagnostic tool but it works well on 4 cylinder cars and so I see now reason why it wouldn't work on a VR6 and will direct towards the specific area. On the other hand your engine might just need time to settle down. And with running and a couple more plug checks, be ok. Hard to tell really.

legvw 0
Do atleast 500 sensible miles, just to break the rings in atleast. See what its like after that, but i'd wait till you've done 1000miles before WOT.
