Right people i am tollally confused on this!!?? i ve rebuilt the head and i done all the piston rings and big end bearing etc and it was running like a drea, last sunday ! so i ve been taking it easy running it in done about 180 miles till firday ! when was running fine all day till out of the blue ! it was running like a dog !! so i drove the motor home and i could see blue smoke on down shifting ! which i know its burning oil ! which when i took the sparks out only 1 and 5 spark had oil on ! so i gave them a clean up and left it over the weekend ! thinking its the rings ! and then today after work i thought i would put the sparks back in and see what happens and what you know its running fine ! so i let it get up to temperture still fine i thought right i go for a drive took it down the road and back fine till the last bit where it started to miss alittle bit but no smoke ! does anyone got a bloody clue because im confused ! thanks steve

right this was very quick test but even so not to happy on results !!!

Piston 1 = 9 bar

Piston 2 = 10 bar

Piston 3 = 8 bar

Piston 4 = 8 bar

Piston 5 = 8 bar

Piston 6 = 9 bar !!

And also sparks 1 and 5 had traces of oil but ever so miner ! uhmmmm bloody thing why can t it just work ! lol

You'll need some compressed air or a compressor with a connection like on your compression tester.

"As to why do a leakdown test, that can often tell more data than a

compression test because you can find out what part of your engine isn't

holding up. If you hear hissing in the intake, it's your intake valves not

seating. If you listen to the exhaust pipe and hear hissing it's your

exhause valves. If you can't hear either it's your rings. If you hear air

coming out of the side of the motor you have a serious problem."

I'm not saying a leak down test is a perfect diagnostic tool but it works well on 4 cylinder cars and so I see now reason why it wouldn't work on a VR6 and will direct towards the specific area.

On the other hand your engine might just need time to settle down. And with running and a couple more plug checks, be ok. Hard to tell really.
