42 second engine change

Recommended Posts

From what I can see by the way the car drives to the finishing line the gear linkage isnt connected, but the gearbox jammed in gear - Although it doesnt appear to be 1st gear.

I think that there is only 1 drive shaft being removed/fitted, and that the diff in the gearbox is welded closed. I think as they lift/lower the engine into place, the guy beneath is directing the driveshaft and exhaust into place, These cars have simple slip in/out style driveshafts.

Id bet the only electrics needed are starter +ve and trigger and HT centre lead. Engine earth will pass through the modded engine mounts.

Although they appear to be coupling fuel lines, I'd imagine the carb is already primed and would run long enough with out a fuel supply.

The engine mounts are clearly modified so that no tools are required. I'd imagine that it is some sort of hook affair.

Even though clearly not a complete job and they have used tricks, its still pretty good going.

I bet they used no tools what so ever. Carb fuel lines generally dont leak if they are just pushed on. They could even be quick release couplings. Driveshaft just slips in/out as does the exhaust. Wiring will be on simple push fit connectors.

RIP Roy Castle.
