rogerfelix 0
Hi all. Hope someone can shed some light....I did some minor rebuild work on a 2.8 pre 1994 VR6 engine. Big ends, mains, valves etc. I got stuck at a point with the intermediate shaft ( the one that has the gears on that the timing chain runs on to drive the oil pump ) Firstly, I could not find any bearings for this shaft locally, so we tried to manufacture a bearing, with no success. Eventually we decided to assemble without the bearing, an bear the noise, just to get on with the job. Now I cannot get the engine fired. It cranks fine, fuel + spark is good, it sounds as if it wants to take, albeit very noisy & clanky, which I imagine would be that intermediate shaft rattling, It just refuses to start. The timing has been checked & re-checked, all is in order. What I need to know is this:The intermediate shaft has a HUGE amount of play on it ( 1-2cm play left to right ), would this cause the timing to jump in & out, making it sound like it wants to fire, and then just continue on cranking? Surely the cam timing cannot be interfered with by this shaft, or am I wrong?I hope someone can help me as I am at the tearing out my hair point.ThanxRoger Felix
