legvw 0
Sounds like your alternator isn't working fella, and your car is running off of the battery. Is the charge light on the dash when you've had it running?
DaveVR6'S' 0
iv had a look and all the dash lights are off but the abs light flickers. a local mechanic says it could be ignition switch ? if the alternator is shot would that cause the car not to start ? cheers
legvw 0
Yes, because the battery will be flat if the alternator is not charging it. It would cause the 'click' sounds on turning the key to start-as the batt hasn't got enough power to turn the starter. The battery should show 13 to 14v when the engine is running, if the alternator is charging. DaveVR6'S' 0
iv tried a new alternator but its still doing the same. is there some kind of ignition relay etc that could be faulty ?the car worked perfectly till i put my hand down behind the rad. could i have knocked something that could cause it ? iv checked all conectors and plugs and all seem fine ? when i jump start the car it drives fine and idles as normal, but soon as i turn it off it goes back to the fault. T0NYVR6 2
Sounds like a regulator problem to me but I dont know where the it is on these cars. When you bumped the car and it was running what voltage did you have on the battery?
DaveVR6'S' 0
its a L reg corrado vr6. when i jumped the car it was on 11.99 volts and the it just counts down slowly to 2 volts. but just makes 1 click when tried to start without jump start. so confusing. T0NYVR6 2
Could do with a wiring diagram for the charge circuit. Your definately not recieving the voltage being generated from your alternator. Are you sure the alternator you put on was good?
