vr6stormt 0
got home from work today and decided to start stripping the engine after finding oil in the water and come across this 1st pic....i thought that does`nt look right .... then i realised it was the top tensioner guide split in half and wedged between the chain and cover...then i dug a little deeper to find all of this just resting around the chains the other guides 2nd pic... i dont no how it was still running ... anyway ive removed the cams and was wondering if anyone knows...the lobes have shiny chrome like covering on the highest points but should this be all the way round the lobes all the lifters have no wear marks on so is this normal for the lobes to look like they have just had there tips covered hope you understand what im trying to describe lol
ashmk3 0
Holy **** that's horrid to look at I'm going to double check mine now. What could of caused this? Incorrect tension? Sorry for the questions but I'm new to the vr worldand learning everytime I go out and pop the bonnet.

legvw 0
Blimey, wonder what the other tensioner looks like?I think the cams thing is normal, its the 'highest' part of the lobe, and where the most force is to push the follower/valve down. As long as there's no scoring on the lobes and followers then they'll be fine fella.
