Hi i have recently had the EML on complete with erratic idle and poor fuel consumption/lack of power/smoothness and did a quick scan with my cheapo e bay scanner and it throws up the temp sensor faulty code.

Had a quick look and the sensor body is black in colour. When i look around the internet everyone whos had the sensor fault code seems to have up -graded to the revised green version. part number 059919501a

Does anyone have a definate part number for the 4motion 2.8 sensor? there are loads of updated green versions on e bay saying they fit "MK4 Golfs" but a couple make out like they are not suitable for the 2.8 4motion leaving me a little confused and dubious.

Maybe i should just get a genuine one from the dealers??

Anyone else had similar issues and fitted the 059919501a part succesfully?

Just a quick update, i did end up buying a temp sensor, sealing ring and clip from VW and it came to less than £30 all in which i was happy enough with for genuine parts.............However! I have since realised that my alternator is on its last legs as when i was running around picking the said parts up i tried to start the car up after leving the dealers and the battery was completely flat!!

Luckily the dealers had a jump pack to help me out.So it looks like the failing alternator was either mimicking the temp sensor problems or i have both problems running sise by side!

Anyway i have managed to find a local auto electrical place that will refurb my alternator for about £60. I just need to get the damn thing off now......i feel a full front end strip down coming :(

The only thing i dont understand is why didnt i get any "alternator workshop" lights and no red battery light illuminated???

Front end strip it is mate, had my front end off to get the motor out and its then easily accessible, you'll need something to release aux belt tension, though a 8mm bolt wont do it (mine stripped) i ended up using a spanner on the nut shape on the tensioner by the wheel, not a big job just fiddly :) for not a lot of money a new belt is a worthwhile job too..

Thanks for the reply, im not worried about stripping the front end and physically unbolting the alternator but im not 100% sure on the belt tension releasing part........is it like its under constant pressure and you have to release it to slip the belt off?Is it fairly self explanitary once you are there looking at the thing?

And i was wondering if its worth changing any other bits while im disasembled.....such as water pump?

Think i will get a fresh belt as it looks quite "weathered" to me, and it seems silly not to while its off.
