N/S and O/S lock barrels

For the past 3 months i've been using my passengers door lock to open my car coz the drivers side barrel was broke as the little loop on the back of it was snapped off.

At gti fest last weekend the passengers side barrel did the same.

I rang round a few places and the only thing i can get is a barrel repair kit from VW which has the paddel already attatched to the rear of it. BUT they sad i need to take the plates out of my existing barrel and fit them in the new barrel shell so i can use my existing key

I've looked at my old barrel and i cant work out how to get them out :s

Has anyone ever done this? VW recon its easy lol
