Strange handling issue and grip problem

Recommended Posts

As the tittle says, i have had understeer problems since i got the car, the power steering had gone and i had budget tyres on the front. I changed the tyres to yoko parada2's and fixed power steering. Handling(in the dry) was much better and in the wet was better but still alot of understeer and not very responsive steering. Last week i picked up that i have got alot of body roll, and my traction problems are worse!

If its raining or the road is wet, and i go round a round about at the speed of a normal person would take a round about... I turn and the car sort of keeps going forward then turn a bit and then judder forward etc!

I need help with getting my handling up to scratch and sorting this problem out.

Who knows what the problem is?

Thanks Kieron

have the fronts at 1.5 deg neg

have you recently fitted the suspension and not had the tracking and camber set after?

check for leaks around the dampers... but poor tracking and camber does destroy a cars handling.

The smoking and poor running problem?

ok then cheers bodge ill get it booked in for it, getting it serviced, new plugs ,leads, oil, oil filter, clean air filter, clean maf, clean isv valve.... see how it runs then because its started smoking again, and idles crap still.

You say front camber 1.5 degrees negative what about the back? and if its neg does that mean the bottom is out and the top is closer to the car if you know what i mean?

yep that's right... bottom out/ top in

Having that camber up front improves the turn it quite a lot... to much camber up front and the back end will come out all the time

The rears aren't adjustable so you don't need to worry about that, but if the tracking or camber is WAY out you can make adjustment with camber shims.

If you want to improve it more round bend then relocate your battery to the boot and fit some slim line spal radiator fans.. just helps get some of the weight off the front end

I had my tracking done the other day and it handles so much better now, as for the camber it requires a special tool for the mk 3 golf, Vw will do it for you but it will cost mate, but some local tyre places should be able to do it for ya
