krave 0
I have just taken off my head to do headgasket, no visable parts of gasket missing, just really corroded parts where the water channels, as if s the head!the head is so corroded and will need to be skimmed. How do i go about getting the valves out and lapping them in? im on a budget, and how much to sklm the head/Or does any one have a fully work, uncorroded head for cheap for sale. Phat VR6 3
the place where you take it to get skimmed should know by meausing how much had been taken off already, And how much more they can skim off safelyYou need to use a valve spring compressor tool to get the valves out. Removing cams, lift of hydrolic tappets. Then use tool to compress spring. flick collets out, release tool, lift retainer off and valve spring, then slide valve out. Clean up Then using course valve lapping in paste start lapping in valves and turn 90 deg every say 20 seconds, you want to get the same colour lighty grey all way round on the seat and valve. no black spots or patches, then repeat with fine paste.keep valves, springs, collets, reaters and hystrolic tappits in order. IE number then and put them back where they came fromHope this helps Tom
