MarkGolf 6
Hi.My VR is nearly alive, just got a few questionsWhat is the BEST oil, I always read about synta silver 10w/40, is this the most recommended stuff? I plan on doing an oil change in 500/1000 miles anyway as the engine has been rebuilt..I'm always running an oil cooler, does anyone know how much extra oil my engine will need with this in, I will go about with trial and error and checking the dipstick but a rough idea of adding an extra .5 litres or something would be nice.. It's a 13 row mocal jobbyWhat kinda of pressure and temp should the engine get once 'warmed up'.. I've never started it so I plan on letting it idle for 10-15 mins once it first starts and keeping an eye on the SPA pressure/temp gauge I got for itcheers
spindat45 0
I think Synta Silver 10w40 will be your best bet. The oil cooler shouldn't make a great deal of difference to the overall capacity but i'd keep it just above the max level on the dipstick just to be sure. Before you start for the first time, I'd recommend unplugging the multiplug next to coilpack so it won't start. Turn the engine over for five seconds or so. Do this three or four times to get some oil to the top of the engine. Then re-connect the plug and go for a start. Once started, do as you said and let it idle. It may sound like a bag of nails for a good 5 mins but providing you have enough oil in and your pump is working ok it will quieten down. Not sure on pressure but after about 10-15 mins at idle you should get an oil temp reading of 50 which will continue to rise. I never rev my engine above 300rpm until i see at least 80 degrees on the oil temp gauge(MFA). mine sits at about 96 under normal driving but yours will probably lower due to the cooler.Hope all goes well. spindat45 0
No probs. That was meant to be never rev above 3000rpm btw. lol.I've just seen that we're in the same part of London. Be good to see the beastie once it s up and running If that's your reg I'm sure I've seen it out and about at some point.
