S.i.m.o.n 0
Hi Had a problem the other night that the fuel pump was not working properly it was blowing air and fuel out, (i had loads of fuel in the tank) I bought a new pump yesturday and installed it, all fine ran fine until this morning driving to work it died again, got it back to mine no fuel was comming out of the tank put the pump was working fine, removed the top of the pump cover to have a look turned the key and loads of fuel came out its a though there is a vacum problem in the tank. Can some one point me in the right direction to try and get this fixed. The car is a K plate VR6Cheers Simon

ip 0
I wasn't aware of the second pump either. However, the pump that sits n the tank is a two stage pump itself. It includes a low pressure high volume 'lifter pump' that lifts fuel from the tank and a second low volume high pressure pump (4 bar) that pressurises the fuel line. However, these sit in the one housing and can only be replaced as a complete unit (as I gather you have already done).Having spent a LOT of time under my car recently I can't say I've noticed anything else in the fuel line except the fuel filter itself.BTW, a cracked or blocked fuel filter might cause your issue. You can buy a simple in-line fuel pressure gauge on ebay for not much cash and it is a simple test to do.ip
rigs 0
Someones just told me I was wrong about the second pump so ignore me It just has the in-tank pump on a mk3
S.i.m.o.n 0
Ok cheers rigs.IP; Yes i have already changed the pump it seems as though there is a vacum in the tank stopping the fuel from comming out as the pump runs but no fuel comes out. if you remove the piece that sits on top of the tank the pump starts to pump fuel again.
