Went to the Nurburgring two weekends ago, and a big roadtrip around Europe.The car used a little oil before, but it became apparent on the trip. It used about a pint per 1000km (600 or so miles).I also noticed, that if you coasting down a hill, usually a fairly long one, and then come on the throttle, there is a puff of smoke behind you when you do. You can see it thru the review mirror.Car has 118k miles on it. Also maaaay smoke a little and high RPM full throttle, but havent been able to confirm it, it just looks dusty behind the car at night with other cars lights.So, what is the likely problem? Valve stem seals? What oil is recommended? Time for an oil change anyways. Link to post Share on other sites
thegoth 5 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Share Posted September 23, 2008 Even the VW manual that came with the car, originally ;-) , states they can use 1L per 1000km/miles ( not sure which measure is used )but your does sound like valve stem seals usual oil is synta silva or fuchs semi synthetic Link to post Share on other sites
