Hi guys,

Got a bit of a problem where the idle bounces up and down when sat stationary, then also when in second gear the car will drive itself and get at 2000rpm! (which was cool for around town, but worrying non the less) After it stops bouncing around and sort of settles to just under 1000rpm, if you come to a sudden stop or slow down quickly the engine cuts out, then have to turn her over to get running again.

I have tried removing the negative lead from the battery as suggested and left it for over an hour and reconnected it but with no avail.

I recently changed plugs, leads, coil pack, the ecu malfunctioned so I managed to get second hand one which has run fine for 2 months.

There is no power loss at all, as when the hammer is dropped it springs into life, but slow end is really erally wierd. I have put a video up on

(sorry for the crap sound off my phone but u can hear it at standstill moaning up and down.

Any thoughts?!! Air Mass Meter? (other than a vag com, cos i dont have one! - sure it can be arranged tho)

cheers,Jon.

Thanks Mike,

I have been reading up and saw a few threads when peeps have been cleaning the throttle body they had a similar issue with the revs going up and down and had to get ecu checked with vag com. Would it be a good idea to disconnect battery if im playing?

Any other thoughts would be great if Im taking stuff apart :D

i had a similar case in my VR, but in addition, when the gas pedal was released, the engine went off ( sometimes). When i replaced the idle stabilizer ( a round thing with a red plastic all over hiding a spring ) lying beneath the throtle everything was OK. Additionaly , i replaced also the TPS ....

Now, once a day, when the engine reaches appr 2000 rpm, there is a lack of power ( like switching off the engine ) , for 5 seconds !!!! I cannot solve this !!!!

I am thinking of something different that i have to find out :

In my VR, there's oil leaking from my V9F S/C, directly into the MAF sensor, additionaly there's always oil drops into the intake .... Maybe this "dirty" situation causes all above ....

hi guys i have exact same problem, im trying to understand what the solution is though!

Mine has good days and bad days, but the idle is ridiculus and bounces up and down and then sometimes sits at 1500 rpm, V annoying!!

How do you clean throttle body??

hmm still not solved! I replaced the pipe that goes from the MAF to the throttle body (as it needed replacing anyway) Also managed to clean in and around the throttle body and put it all back together. Checked the MAF and didnt seem to be dirty at all. Acceleration may be a little more responsive (not sure if thats just my mind telling me this!) but the car still bounces , but not all the time, also it still cuts out. When I was in 4th and dropped off the gas to change it cut out! That was a one off I think I dunno..

I think I need to get a VAGCOM check. I have noticed tho that when I start the car the left hand lcd display reads 1002 ???

Cant get the links to work!

Your car looks OBD1? If so then I think you need to clean the ISV as well as the main throttle body assembly. You will also need to perform a throttle body realignment on VAGCOM (search and there is some info on ROSS-TECH.

HTH
