wheatley87 0
Hi guys, Thought id come on here and introduce myself.Im about to go and look at a MK2 golf with a Corrado 2.9 VR6 engine and stage 2 VF charger (see link)http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/563070.htmNow i currently own an Escort RS Turbo so im not mechanically dyslexic so feel free to get technical. What i need to know is....How reliable are these engines?? As you can probably appreciate I need something pretty reliable when my other car is an RS Turbo!Do the standard gearboxes cope with the power ok?Also if anyone has any information on the said car I would love to hear it!Look forward to hearing your commentsRegardsAdam
xyber 1
Looks like an honest engine and its been looked after. VR engines are relativley simple and bomb proof so long as they are kept in good clean oil and let heat up before cainingEngine and box will be fine with the charger and handle the power, check out 1st gear though as that can suffer if hammered, but it will be obvious if theres a problem

rodney 17
With regars to the mk2 change check the engine mounts as they can go and also the exhaust is wrapped or the likes and no cracks. It can get hot in there and the zorst doesnt normally have a flex joint. Check the oil change frequency and the belt(s) is(are) tight and wear free. Worth checking all usual mechanics and asking if the chains have been changed.. usually around the 100k mark...(I forgot if he said they had in the advert).Other than that bomb proof. temperature in the engine is what kills 'em so as long as it runs cool even under boost and has good oil and water flow not much else really... The Charged engine should have oil and filter every 5k for ideal operating conditions as you would expect. Most of us do it 3-5k for comfortOther than to say buy it and buy it now.... (No i dont know the car) but you will love the sound and wonder why you didnt do it years ago... LOL
