Smuggler 0
Have just got a replacement engine for my OBD2 motor. The replacement one has differences though like EGR, but the throttle bodies are the same? The replacement one also apparently came out of an R reg golf too. I've basically nearly done the swap, just have to bolt the motor back in and everything, but i'm worried about these differences. I've already changed the alternator/starter loom as that was different. Can anyone shed some light on this?
UnitedMotorsport 55
Sharan or Galaxy engine.EGR was not fitted to OBD2 UK golfs.
Smuggler 0
Damn, i've just realised it's got what looks lke secondary air injection also at the inlet manifold. Am i going to ha e problems using this engine?
UnitedMotorsport 55
Your gonna need a 19mm Core pug to put in the front of the cylinder head. This is to block up the whole where the secondary air valve would be.
Smuggler 0
Ok thats fine, do i need to plug the egr stuff, or just leave it there but disconnected.Would the vr6 that I already took out have a core plug already fitted in place of the SAI port?Cheers
Phat VR6 3
core plug would be un usable from the old engine... Only 90p from VW
UnitedMotorsport 55
There is no 19mm core plug on the engine you took out, The heads are different between engines with secondary air injection, and the ones that dont.Remove all the EGR stuff. To bung the hole in the inlet manifold use a sump bolt. Use the exhaust manifolds from the engine you removed from your golf.
