Pamoothican 0
So I bought a VR6 golf with what sounded like a big end away (Was too cheap to say no) anyway, Got a new set of bearings on order from VW.Now here is the problem, my dad has scared me by asking "what if its a small end or a pin away?"Can i reuse the big end bolts to check its not the small ends or pins, because if i put it all back together with new big end bolts and a small end is away, the £100 of new bolts will have to go in the bin too.Hmmm *-)Any help greatly appreciatedThanks
rodney 17
Usually the little ends are fine. If you only have one big end worn this helps the chances are all litttle ends fine. Little ends is quite an unusual fault in the scheme of thingsOf course you can mock up the engine using the old bolts - no issues at all. Many people do not repllace these bolts when they replace the big end bearings. I assume you have the pistons out so you can give them a visual inspection. The eye is quite good at this type of thing All should be ok ...
Pamoothican 0
Well before I started I took out the cam chain tensioner on the back of the head. It was stuck in position so I have freed it off, when I put it back in the knocking noise has changed.Changed my order with VW for a new tensioner. Hopefully its just that. so no need to worry about the bottom end phew!
