MK3 VR6 few little rust problems.

My VR6 has a badly corroded metal fuel ring when removing the plastic fuel cap.

Is this a easy replace? it doesn't look connected to the tank?

Also, if pull up my rear seats there are 2 rubber rings surrounded with rust on each side of the car. Is there a way I could slow the rust down/stop rust in some way? would you recommend getting this professionally repaired if possible?

Any advice appreciated ;)

Cheers for the reply.

Can you recommend the stuff from Halfords. Just called rust killer? I need it for my rear brakes pipes aswell.

Fuel cap rust area is separate from the rest of the car. I tried to get the fuel ring from VW and I had to buy a whole unit costing over £130. Will visit the scrappies for that. The rings surrounded by rust underneath the rear seats worry me. Though small.. Please let me know. Thanks

The rust killer wont stop the rust although will help. How long for i donno because ive only just done mine ( around the filler cap!!! under neath the flap)

As for the rust under your seats. im chopping it out and making some zinktec plates to weld in. Probaly compleaty removing the rubber bungs as i think there only there for manafactory perposes.

Doing it this way the rust should never return as long as you paint it properly and make sure that if u get a stone chip or scrap paint off over a speed bump you paint over it again

Replace the brake pipes. Its a MOT failour
