Bazmcc 0
just wondering what all gearboxes fit an AAA engine from a VR6 passat. I'm not to bothered about having to get custom work done as i'll be doing a full engine rebuild soon anyway. Would an R32 box fit? that could make things interesting.CheersBaz
jcorallo 0
I think the 02M used in the Audi TT fits. Can anyone confirm? This comes in various flavours which I believe include a 6 speed front wheel drive (non quattro) version.Jules
IbiVR 0
No it doesnt. Bolts onto a US MK4 12v, but wont bolt up to the mk3 as the mounting points are different. Its possible, but is alot of effort. You'd also need the 02M dual mass flywheel and clutch, and the mk3 drive shafts are too long, so that needs thinking about.VR bellhousing only fits the vr, you can shove another box in there but you need to swap all the internals into the VR bellhousing.TBH VR gearbox is best, if you want a good mod for its just swap the final drive for a 3.6, or for track use you could even go to 3.9.Tom. jcorallo 0
Mmm confusing - see this link on vortex titled "02m / o2m 6 speed into mk3 12v VR6 (56k very very beware)": http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2633108&postid=33637808From what I can see, the 02M bolts up OK, just that you have to frig the shafts and mounts. But it appears to bolt to the engine OK??Jules
jcorallo 0
..and unless he's changed it, which he could have done, thats deff a mk3 AAA engine - cos the later MK4 US engines had alloy sump pans. But like I said, it could have been changed.Jules
Bazmcc 0
Well, shafts and mounts aren't a problem. I'm making my own. As i said anyway, it's a rebuild job so i might just have to put the engine on a hoist and see if it fits. I've had confirmation already from about 6 people that the box fits fine and is a direct bolt on.ThanksBaz

Bazmcc 0
yip R32 6 speed.Baz
jcorallo 0
OK - but the R32 gearbox will have the transfer box for the rear drive - unless you are thinking of going 4WD?Just been googling, and cannot find much info on gearbox codes - does anyone have a good link?? It looks like the 2WD version of the 02M is used in the Audi TT (180bhp) and the A3 at least... ? Can anyone confirm that this holds true for UK cars? Any others its fitted in with 2WD?Jules
IbiVR 0
Correct. Box will bolt to engine if you use the right clutch/flywheel, but you will have fun with mounts and shafts.Tom.,
Bazmcc 0
OKjust spoke to someone with about 20 years VAG experience. All VW 6 cylinder engines have an identical bell housing bolt hole pattern.BazP.S. and yes i may well go for 4WD.
IbiVR 0
Yes the bolt pattern is the same. The box will bolt up to the engine. My point was the mounts on the mk3 are wrong. Nothing that cant be rectified with some effort - but in reference to the original question - it's not exactly a bolt on fit.Tom.
Bazmcc 0
cheers for the help tom. A bit of modifying to the mounts is a reasonably simply job so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll make sure it's well braced in.CheersBaz
IbiVR 0
Whats shafts are you using? Post up some pics when your done

Bazmcc 0
Shafts will be made to fit with a local engineering place. They know their stuff. It'll be an evening and weekend project so don't expect pics anytime soon.CheersBaz
