adam_christie 0
Hello again! As you may have read, I've bought my first ever VR6, which had an oil problem (which is now sorted), a leaky radiator (which has been replaced, pics etc to come soon), and now seems to be running fine, however there's a real whiney buzz coming from the fuel tank/boot area. I know on a MK2 GTI there's an in-tank fuel pump which can make a pretty awful racket, but is there an in-tank fuel pump on the MK3 VR's aswel? I've had a quick look on Euro Car Parts and all I can find is an "Electrical fuel pump" priced at 113 quid!!! Any ideas? Cheers!Adam
matth76 1
Hi mate.If you had all these problems before you bought it I would have walked away. Not worth the risk. Anyway I would get a full check over by The Phirm or Stealth - they will tell you straight away what the buzzing sound is and check your car is ok. Both are the best in the uk (I wouldn't take it anywhere else) for vr's and same price as a local garage but far far more experienced than a main dealer. Stealth has a rolling road so can also dyno your car and make sure your power curve is nice and smooth which is what it should be if everything is in good order with your bottom end. If it is your fuel pump I would drive fairly easy (keep it under 3k revs) until fixed otherwise serious damage can be done. Let us know how you get on mate. Good luck. stockers 1
the fuel pump is in the boot floor ( a round disc that is bolted down under the carpet) it will buzz on ignition and continue to buzz, this means its working, if you have no power loss or running problems i don't think you have a problem. if it stops buzzing then its knackered.the load buzzing may be indicating the pump could be on the way out, so if you suddenly get any running issues that would be your first place to check. mk3anni 0
The fuel pump is not in the boot floorThe fuel pump is in the tank. The access hatch is in the boot floor, remove this and you can see the top of the fuel pump sitting in the top of the fuel tank.
adam_christie 0
Well, it's virtually in the boot floor.......Anyway, am I right in assuming that it's the only fuel pump in the car? TaAd

mk3anni 0
Oh well, I'm sure the irritation will pass you by soon enough.Instead of bitching how about you answer his question...oh don't worry i'll do it for you.Yes it is the only pump in the car!
