Mr Anderson 1
Had the charger fitted for about a month now (Vortech V9 F Stage 2) but only had it mapped last week. It Feels like the power sometimes comes in spurts in 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd. Could this be due to the belt slipping? and if so, is it just a matter of upping the tension on it or is there a better belt available? Any help is much appreciated. Cheers! wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk 27
it would squeal if belt slips mine used to squeal on full throttle but never lost power are u sure its mapped ok
Mr Anderson 1
That rules that out then, no squeeling. It was mapped at Stealth so I would hope that it was all done properly. Never been in another charged VR so not 100% sure how it should feel. Is it likely to be an issue with the mapping?
mk3anni 0
dont see why it would be mapping if its intermittent.i had a similar prob but i'd blown the boost pipe off!!
apd 0
do you have the 7 rib belt on that europarts stock, rather than a makeshift 6rib belt?
Mr Anderson 1
Not sure, I have the one that came with the charger. Didn't count the ribs. Acceleration in 2nd just seems to be incosistent.
apd 0
remember talking to vr sick at brunters and he had a 6rib belt that suffered slippage with a 12psi pulley.running an 8.5psi pulley on a v2 that had a 6rib belt when 1 bought it-which after a while suffered slippage as not charging alternator.sourced a 7rib belt from europarts-now always puts 13-14 volts into the alternator and does not slip.you are getting more wrap around/more available boost from your pulley/no slip.part no.FPS7PK1473-MICRO-V BELT 78403-£14.99. HOPE THIS HELPS!
mk3anni 0
Jake was running the 6 rib because he couldnt get a 7 rib.I'm running the same belt as you Mr Anderson and i have no slip!!! Have you considered getting a boost gauge and hooking it up to see whats happening?? Also check the joint between the plastic pipe and the TB, mine blows off there now and again and its not obvious until you pull on the pipe and it moved when it shouldn't. Mr Anderson 1
Cheers for the help lads.I wish I knew the first thing about fitting a boost gauge :S .Do you always get squeeling with belt slippage because mine doesn't squeel?I will check the connection beween the plastic pipe and the TB but I imagine that would affect all of the gears if it was loose and not just 2nd?Not been in any other charged VR before so maybe it is just normal but I would have expected 280bhp to feel alot quicker :-( . Maybe I was just expecting too much
