Just been looking through the parts diagrams for a New Year's keeping busy task lol, there's the usual radiator 3 pin temp switch that is usually the hoses side of the rad just below the top hose, there's another oddity - looks like a fan series resistor is fitted for the various fan speeds like a heater fan resistor - so I guess if that goes faulty then the fan would only work in max mode (like the upper temp 105 deg switch being tripped). Items are 6: Fan Switch 1H0 959 481B for the 3 pin, there's a 2 pin listed as well 06A 919 501 A. The series resistor 2 is 7M0959506A and is only used on Sharan / Galaxy / Alhambra.

chalkyh got a reaction from coldguinnessman in Sensor above oil cooler
After having my grey VR apart to do the crack pipe after changing the oil cooler that was putting oil into the coolant, I ended up changing all the housings onto the head because I was just chasing new leaks - in the end the thermostat elbow, sensor housing and crack pipe elbow and all o-ring seals - there were fine little cracks that were allowing coolant to get past the head o-ring 2 - and also the new crack pipe top o-ring into 19 had a little cut in it when donkey here assembled it all up. Those plastics warp and are generally not so good if original. The head o-ring 2 in the pic will run down to the knock sensor boss, certainly mine did. There's a few sellers of the full set on ebay . . .

Agree with Pete there absolutely, and there's lots of variables.

Yep, in answer to your original question, are the fans running after every run: NO. But, if I've been stuck in slow traffic, the ambient temp is greater than 25deg C or it's been driven like a VR should, YES, so as Pete says - it's dependant on lots of factors. These cars are old now, and to get one of mine right (with only 62k and dealer history) it took: crack pipe, thermostat housing, thermostat, radiator upper hose, main radiator, both temp switches on the thermostat housing, radiator fan switch - all to original specs - so no lower temp thermostat or switches. That sorted that one, my other 89k car needed a main radiator and fan switch (that car would get really hot before the fans cut in, over 105 deg C) and oil cooler heat exchanger. A lot of the problem is caused by the old antifreeze G11 or G12 that turns to silt / coating - it reduces the heat transfer through critical components and really reduces the efficiency of a radiator.

VW Heritage have them listed but available on backorder only, they're the cheapest new priced @ £62 ish:

There's the end cap for each side (£10 each) if they've gone too, and a black rivet for each.
VW Parts International had them listed on the eBay shop they have, but sold out at mo, they were £77 a side.
Second hand good ones are scarce, there's some sellers in Latvia (but not used them, postage is £££), and NK Auto in Greece is a good source (and will combine postage) - I've had a lot from him,

    Good luck in the search,

So corrado vr6 was turning over but wouldn't start so I changed the fuel filter and then changed the crack shaft sensor still wouldn't start I was also having problems with the abs light staying on and brakes not pumping correctly
So after more online searching I heard mention of the ignition switch and as it happens I had bought one ages before so decided to fit.
It took me a good 2 hours as for most part I didn't realise you can actually see the screw holding switch in place if you look down the LHS of steering column when covers are removed, so fitted new switch and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with lights I've never seen Before, and car started on first turn of the key.
And the all important ABS light went out as it should even the brake pedal feels a lot firmer.
    HAPPY DAYS....

£13.13 for a new fuel filter and boom the vr6 is back to life and engine is running Tip-top, teasing the 25+ year old nuts that hold the filter housing in place was tight but I soaked well before attempting.
Fuel filter on a vw corrado vr6 is underneath car at rear of drivers side and easy to access on basic car jacks, though I also put an axle stand in under car
