    C J BICHO reacted to jonny-5 in [SOLD] 1996 VR6 syncro 3dr
    1996 3dr Golf VR6 syncro

Here we have my Golf VR6 syncro,

I have owned this car for very nearly 5 years and it has been superb right from day one. Unfortunately these days I don’t have the time available to enjoy it to its potential, although it has been MOT’d every year and kept garaged the whole time.

This is indeed a factory produced 3 door Golf VR6 syncro. It has 115,321 miles on the clock, comes with plenty of factory extras including Climatronic and heated seats, just under 12 months MOT and a solid engine and drivetrain. It is LHD as it left the factory, but please don’t let that put you off – it is very easy to get used to.
The Golf is originally from Belgium, were it stayed for 2 years before going to a father and son in Sweden where is has spent most of its life. I was then sold to an Irish gentleman who was working in Sweden at the time and he owned the car for around 6 months and then sold it to myself. It is fully UK legal and registered correctly, no trouble at all with insurance, tax etc mainly because it’s a factory produced vehicle.

    Engine and gearbox:
The engine is original and is a 2.9l ABV. VR6 syncros were fitted with the larger 2.9l VR6 engine, these benefit from a double (duplex) timing chain which is very quiet in this particular example with no rattling or odd noises. This engine is a real trooper and uses no oil or water.

In the last 1000 miles it has had the following: HT leads, coil pack, rocker cover gasket, spark plugs, oil and filter. The PCV valve has been replaced and is working perfectly.
It is fitted with a custom  3” air intake with hidden MAF meter with air flow straightener and large K&N air filter. This sounds as you’d expect from a VR6 and works perfectly.

    Drivetrain:
Suspension is all standard and works well. The gearbox is quiet and changes nicely, the rear differential is also quiet and functions as it should and correctly disengages the freewheel upon reversing (allows 4WD in reverse).
The brakes have had a large overhaul again in the last 1000 miles consisting of the following:
Rebuilt and powder coated 312mm front callipers and Mk4 golf rear callipers both with braided hoses with new discs, fitted with EBC yellow stuff pads which all together provides some very reassuring braking power. The ABS system also had a couple of new sensors and works perfectly.

    Interior:
Black heated leather is everywhere, all working correctly and in great condition, comes with genuine tailored mats also. The ABS and airbag lights light up and turn off as they should. The Climatronic is awesome and heats/cools very well indeed, all electrics from dash lights to windows function perfectly. It is fitted with a Toad alarm which is very good and works well. All the doors and ignition use the same key which is always nice. It had a new ignition switch fitted last year as it was getting sticky. It comes fitted with an Alpine mini disc player of all things – unfortunately I don’t have any spare mini discs to give the new owner but the radio works well!

    Exterior:
The body is generally good, there is a Votex spoiler fitted to the tailgate with integrated brake light – quite a rare item when you go looking. The front right hand wing would want replacing ideally but is solid, the inner wind however is in great condition. Rear arches are very good, as is the underside and sills, they are particularly good for a mk3, probably due to its time spent abroad.
It comes fitted with some mk4 golf steel wheels which are powder coated silver and lacquered, these look like G60 steel wheels as they have custom centre caps with bolt covers except they are 16” which is much more in proportion for a mk3, they are also needed to clear the 312mm brakes. The Golf is fitted with Goodyear eagle F1’s all-round which have masses of tread left.

    Other information:
I have plenty of service documentation, receipts and old log books to go with the car both from abroad and the UK, I have the original clocks (in KM) with original mileage all recorded with DVLA paperwork. Also original LHD headlight glass, comes with two correct keys and alarm fobs all fully working. It has a Belgian fire extinguisher fitted in the passenger footwell – dated 1996 can’t imagine it’s much good now but fairly original! The number plates are set into the old Swedish surrounds.

Overall this is a very rare car that is very functional and solid. With a little time and effort you could have something very special indeed. It is a car that I have enjoyed owning and always generates the right type of interest. I've only listed this on here at the moment as the forum has always been good to me though out the years.

The UK pulled out its best weather for the photographs as you can see! Any of the wetness underneath is all water spray. If you need any more images please ask.

I’d like £4000 GBP for this, any questions please ask away on here or else 07834559855. Located in Rugby, Warwickshire M6 J1

Hi, I'm Diederik from the Netherlands and a newbie to this forum!
Bought my VR6 (MK III), Dusty Mauve, on 16 June. I was told I am the third owner, first was a middle aged lady that kept it for 23 (!) years. Guy I bought it from, had it for nearly 1 year, kept it as an extra car (his passion is a classic beetle) and drove less than 2,000 kms with it. Car had factory heated seats and sunroof, no A/C or leather seat. Leather seats were put in by the former owner. I have purchased another black leather set, smooth leather, that is now nearly full of leather grease.

Got fresh MOT two weeks ago (cover, new brake caliper and frest brake fluid). I will service the car hopefully this weekend, already ordered oil (CASTROL Magnatec, A3/B4, 10W-40), Bosch filterS and NGK Spark plugs a month ago, but the goods only arrived today. Something went wrong (oil leakage) during the first shipment and it took them ages to "investigate".

Further plans are a total respray (same color) and improvement of various items (rear lights' plastic scratched, change logo in the front - it is black now, front indicators are not Hella, respray logo's, plastic of tacho has a huge scratch, leather on gear knob is badly damaged, installing a glove box under dashboard, change leather seats, give interieur (carpet!) a good clean, refurbish wheels, install new mats with logo, etc.).

    Cheers and best regards,
    Diederik

    Selling my mk3...
By no means a show car...
    Needs a few bits...
Osf door latch don't latch, had a bungeed shut since I parked it up.
Top rad hose to header tank leaking but has temp repair,
    Rear wiper arm snapped off,
Would benefit from a bit of welding in the usual places, was advised on last mot,
Engine and box in good nick, been serviced regularly,
To be fair in all, the cars in good shape, I just need rid cus I'm moving house that won't have a drive and the Mrs has got a baby on the way, so it's help buying nappies and such...
Got around 80k on the clock so fairly low mileage,
No tax or test so would need trailering or jumping and bombing straight down to a local test centre! ;-)
I want around £700 for it but will listen to offers...
Can also put more photos up if needed...

Likely because the badges that are on the cars are a branding rather than a description. To VW "VR6" is an engine from the early 90's, not a good marketing ploy to put that on the back of a brand new car 10 years later. On the flip side of that, the Audi TT is badged "Quattro", when it is infact a haldex 4wd system. Quattro is indeed an old name just like "VR6," but Quattro is the name of the very successful 4wd system that pretty much put Audi where they are today, so again a marketing ploy.

The mk3 had a 2.8 vr6 12v and the mk4 had a 2.8 v6 24v. Technically the mk4 isn't a vr6 as the pistons are at 90 degree angles ie a v6. In the vr6 the pistons are at a 45 degree angle hence the name vr6 (VR stands for Vee Reihenmotor which pretty much translates to vertical inline.)

As said above the corrado had a 2.9 vr6 12v.

It also may be worth noting there are 2 variants of the vr6 engine. OBD1 and OBD2. All corrados and pre 95 mk3s are OBD1 and post 95 are OBD2. OBD2 is basically an upgrade, upgraded throttle body, abs and few other bits and pieces. Not too difficult to do the conversion though. See more on this thread: http://www.vr6oc.com/forum/topic/7902-is-my-vr6-an-obd1-or-obd2/

It's worth noting that the mk3 vr6 is fwd and the mk4 v6 is 4wd. 174bhp vs 201bhp as standard I think. Not difficult to get a vr6 over 200bhp though.

Hi. Welcome to the sale of my golf vr6 highline in black (black magic) the reason for sale is that we are in the middle of moving house and it came far quicker than we thought so i need to free up some cash and it was either the vr6 or the scooby that had to give way, and with me being a jap kind of guy the scooby had to stay

Saying that the golf is a lovely car and i enjoy driving both for their own reasons. Anyway here is a list of what the golf has had done while ive had it.

Last week it had 2 brand new wishbones/balljoints and track rod ends with uprated bushes.

I had a full service about 6 weeks ago and had a brand new sump pan fitted at the same time

New coilpack, again about 6 weeks ago

Gearbox oil change around 3 weeks ago

New coolant sensor and crank sensor recently

Coilovers have done less than 200miles

Its also has 10mm thicker ht leads and an air filter but im not sure on the name.

Just before christmas it had a full blowover/respray and had 2 new sills professionally fitted so they are soild again, and also had the wheels refurbished and brand new quad headlights fitted at the same time.

The seats in there i got them from a member of the forum and they came out of a car that had done less than 50k so they are in very good condition!.

Everything works as it should, electrics, mirrors, windows etc and the abs light comes on and goes off straight away like it should! The car drives faultless with no noises, chain rattle or any leaks as it should!

The guy i bought the car off didnt have any service history with it but as he was a well known member on the corrado vr6 forums and he had his fair share of vr6s i had no issue with it as he was also an enthusiast, but i have all the reciepts for the work above that i have had done!

When i bought the car he said it had a 6 branch manifold on there and a serbring exhaust, it is pretty quiet but gives that lovely vr6 tune when its higher in the revs!

The car has done 118k and was previously an auto but has been professionally converted to a manual

The car will also come with a short shifter with new bushes so the gear changes will be short and precise.

Overall the car is in excellent condition unlike alot for sale that claim to be! It does have a couple of things that could do with sorting

Its only got 1 key and the alarm doesnt work! Never bothered me as i use a disklock

There is a rip in the steering wheel

1 crack in one of the lower indicators

    No CD player.
So really they are nothing at all and if they were fixed you wouldnt notice anyway hemce why i havent bothered, the car gets looks everywhere it goes and the amount of times ive been asked to sell it to them while filling up at the petrol station is crazy lol.

Im asking for £2500 OVNO as there are a few out there that are no were near this and are more...it is priced to sell but im not desperate at all. Thanks for looking! My number is 07758243030 if you want to get in contact with me. Thanks for looking ashley,

I just bought a 1998 mk3 vr6, which is in great condition and has only done 35k miles.
But I was wondering why the engine has VR6-2.8 written on it, when so many others I have seen on the web, seem to have VR6-DOHC. Can someone kindly let me know the difference. Have I bought a dud?
    Many thanks

C J BICHO reacted to antera309 in Was the Mk3 Golf VR6 ever offered with 4WD?
    Yes.
VW produced a 4-Wheel-Drive version of the Golf Mk3 VR6 called the "Golf VR6 Syncro". It used a viscous coupling system similar (but not identical) to that in the Golf Mk2 Rallye. The system transmits all engine power to the front wheels normally, but if front wheel slip is detected, up to 40% of the engine's power is redirected to the rear wheels until traction is restored.

Not only did the Syncro get 4WD, it also got the 2.9 litre, 190BHP VR6 engine from the Corrado. This helped to offset the additional power lost through the 4WD system. The straight-line performance of the VR6 Syncro is very similar to that of the normal FWD Golf VR6. Off-the line traction and cornering ability (especially in the wet) is greatly improved, though!
Unfortunately, the Golf VR6 Syncro was only ever sold in Mainland Europe, and all examples are left-hand-drive. A number of Syncros have been imported into the UK by enthusiasts, however, and they do come up on the second-hand market from time to time. They are EXTREMELY rare in the UK, though.
If you want one, the best place to look is in German second-hand car classifieds and German eBay. When searching, note the European spelling of "syncro" (not the English spelling, "synchro")

For sale are the seats and door cards from my VR6. Selling them as I have replaced them with leather.

The car has done approx. 95k miles and the seats are in good condition. The driver's seat outer bolster is broken down slightly but the cloth is in tact and it's not too bad.

The OSR door card has a split by the door handle as shown in the photos, this is hardly noticeable once fitted and door handle in place. As you can see on the front door cards there is one clip housing missing on each, I don't have a spare but if you could get hold of one it could be glued back in place, however they didn't cause me any issues when they were fitted.

Collection only and I'm in Coventry. I'd like to sell the whole lot together and looking for £60.

C J BICHO reacted to antera309 in What are the differences between the Highline and the standard Golf VR6?
How to tell the difference between the Highline and the standard Golf VR6
The Golf VR6 Highline was introduced in April 1995. Production continued right up until 1998 when the Golf Mk3 was discontinued.
The Highline was the flagship of the Golf Mk3 range and cost £2,500 more than the standard Golf VR6. Due to the higher initial cost and the relative rarity of the Highline, second-hand examples are worth 15-20% more than a standard VR6 of the same age, mileage and condition.
When looking to buy a Highline, it is very important to be aware of the differences, since many traders try to sell standard VR6s as Highlines (for Higline money!) when in fact they are not Highlines at all.
The Highline is mechanically identical to any other VR6 of the same age, and has the same power output and performance. All of the Highline enhancements are to the appearance and trim level of the car.
The Highline was ONLY available in two colours, both two-coat pearlescents - Black magic pearl (paint code LC9Z) and Purple violet (paint code LC4P). The purple violet colour is often referred to as "Mulberry".
Both 3 and 5-door versions were available. All Highlines have fully body-colour bumpers and matching body-colour side rubbing strips.
Golf VR6 Highline in Black Magic pearl:

    Golf VR6 Highline in Mulberry:

ALL Highlines state "Golf VR6 Highline" as the "Model/Type" on the V5 Registration document (logbook). It is very important to check this when buying!
    "Highline" stated on the V5:

All highlines had air conditioning, electric sunroof and leather seats as standard. The front seats are heated and the rear seats have headrests. The colour of the leather matched the body colour -
    - black leather in the Black Highline:

    - purple leather in the Mulberry Highline:

    Other differences are as follows:
    1. The interior trim on the A, B & C pillars (between the windows) on the Highline is black. It is light grey on all other models.
    2. The centre console on the Highline is raised at the back, covering the base of the handbrake lever (see photo of the black leather interior above)
    3. The Highline has a wood-effect gearlever (see interior photos above), although many people change these for aftermarket items when they start to get worn-looking.
    4. The Highline does not have the plastic side skirts that are fitted to all other VR6s (although some people retro-fit these)
    5. The highline had 15" six-spoke BBS Solitude alloys as standard, rather than the cross-spoke BBS on all other VR6s:

Although, like with other VR6s, many people have swapped the standard wheels for 16" or 17" aftermarket items.
    6. VR6 badges on both the front grille and on the rear are of a different design - a single black rectangle with a chrome border and the VR6 logo in the middle:

    7. The VW badge on the tailgate is also of a slighly different design to other Mk3s. It is convex rather than flat, and looks like this:

    8. The Highline has sill protectors at the bottom of the door openings, with the VR6 logo on them.
    9. The Highline has low-level red courtesy lights in the doors, which illuminate when the doors are opened.
