I still loving the 12v.

motorrob reacted to Darkbound in VR6 24V BDE Knock from Engine, everything is changed, its still there
I just want to update the thread and say that I have finally managed to fix the problem. The knock is no more.
Althought no one could say for certain "there, this is what caused the knock", my suspicions go to Cylinder #2.
The reasons are that both sets of pistons that I had in the engine (the one before my first rebuild and the one that I put in on the first rebuild) had piston #2 wearing much more than the others.
Cyl #2 was a bit worn out (but still within specs!) at TDC.
Like I said, I'd bet that the problem was in cyl #2.
Sooooo, about a month ago I did a second rebuild, this time I did it on my own with a friend, the knock is no more, here's what we did:
- Cylinders rebored to 82mm (1mm oversize pistons, done by a machine shop of course)
- Brand new Mahle pistons
- Brand new MaxSpeedingRods forged rods with arp bolts (not the best brand, but they are cheap enough to make up for that, instead of replacing the bushings and the bolts on the stock ones, either way im not turboing anytime soon, and the quality and work on them seemed really good for the price)
- R36 Conrod bearings
- All bolts were renewed with OEM ones, crankshaft, camshafts, intermediate shaft, main bearing caps bolts, flywheel bolts and so on
- New timing chain kit
That pretty much sums up the most important things we changed, and its 2.9 now:) Im eager to get it remapped!
P.S. By the way, NEVER BUY ELRING BEARINGS! I've had two sets getting worn out and deforming in under 10k miles each, Kolbenschmidt did great, both for mains and conrods, Im still running KS for the mains and R36 on the conrods now.

motorrob reacted to Darkbound in [SOLVED] MK4 VR6 24V 4Motion - Fuel Pump Whines (both old and new)
I forgot to respond that I found the problem. The problem was indeed that the hose was not fixated on the pump, so I am guessing it was just floating above the fuel and sucking air, once I attached it on the side of the pump where motorrob showed, it stopped whining.

motorrob reacted to eurovw in Corrado R3.6 Conversion completed
I have finally completed my project
1995 VW Corrado Canadian car Transformation with 3.6 from a Passat CC R36. I am only running it as a FWD, the motor has been refreshed top to bottom
For my trans I am running the stock Corrado 5speed with a TDI 5th gear .658
A/C blows ice cold
The car runs great and is a blast to drive, the hp upgrade is incredible and the car handles it well!

motorrob reacted to sleepymike in Welcome to the VR6OC Drag Racing Forum
Ok here's my contribution
Mk1 Caddy vr6 turbo with 4motion, this last season 2013 I was running 401bhp and 400ftlbs of torque.
My best time of the season was an 11.4 second but this next year I'm aiming for a 10second 1/4 so currently changing/upgrading pretty much all of the engine, cooling and turbo and pushing for 550-600bhp or basically as much as I can get!
Here's a nice vid from gti international of me racing a 6.3 AMG Merc on drag slicks, not my best time as it was about 32degrees!

Mate I done the wishbones, and dogbone.
So far the Poly bush on the Dogbone is still there, the rest ive removed and binned.
I hated it.
My experience, if you gonna track the car then do the full monty, if not standard bushes are perfecto..

motorrob got a reaction from VR6Pete in hello there
Hey everyone im rob from manchester, decided to join on here as the information i have seen about the vr6 is brilliant on here and people willing to share there advice and problems. I currently have a 2002 4 motion vr6. Which i picked up for 350 pounds around 8 months ago. The gearbox was seized up. After looking around for a week or so i found a gearbox. I replaced the clutch and fitted my gearbox which got me back on the road . Since then i have serviced the vehicle, fitted ap coilovers, neuspeed induction, r32 coils and got hold of some xxr wheels, tinted the rear windows and smoothed of the front end. There is plenty more i would like to do .i have been going to a few shows this year and would like to head to even more next year.
This is how she stood at edition 38 this year.
