Hutch got a reaction from VR6Pete in VR6 Serpentine Belt Tensioner Replacment
Hi, anyone know if PeterVR6 is still about? (I'm very new). I'd like to see the Photos from the original post, any chance they can be fixed/recovered/reuploaded?
    Cheers

Hutch got a reaction from Bealieboy in Planning to put 2-way 10cm Alpines in the Dash... any thoughts?
Ok thanks, I'd rather not mount separate tweeters, so was hoping the tweeters in the Alpine units might be better (and possibly have better crossovers) than the stock VW / Blaupunkt ones. Is that likely?

After this the next mod was going to put some bass/mid 16.5cm units in the doors, and work back from there. I could put co-axials in the doors too, but assumed all the top would be lost in the footwells. hmm..

I'm kind of trying to go the 6x9s under shelf, sub in boot, massive outlay, butchered car. That's what I used to do when I was 18... man... butchered Fiesta's. - those were the days... "lets rip the whole dash out to put these crossovers in... and who needs a parcel shelf that can be lifted my mere mortals anyway.. woo!"

Hutch got a reaction from Surreyvr6 in Just replaced Blue Temperature sensor, here a howto link
While I was replacing the 2-pin coolant sensor I took some photos and have just put it on one of my sites as a mini-howto. It's over-explained so that anyone can do it: http://myquickfix.co.uk/2013/12/replacing-the-blue-coolant-temperature-sensor-in-the-golf-vr6-mk3/

I hope it's ok posting external links here, if not I'll remove it

    Cheers,

Hutch got a reaction from VR6Pete in Need ECU / Faults reset after Coolant Sensor replaced
Just to clear this up for anyone else wondering about errors and ECUs and coolant sensors.
It turns out that my alternator failed the same day that I replaced the sensor, and the high idle seemed to be as a result of this. The alternator was replaced this afternoon and now the car idles at about 750-800 ish again, and feels good.
Will get vag-com on it anyhow when I find a windows laptop or a reader turns up, but for now, problem solved!

Ok I applied force, and it sheared. Oh well, kind of expected that. It sheared far down inside the spacer so I think I'll either thread the spacer, or maybe just make some of my own holes in the panel, put something on them to stop them corroding for a while and be done with it.

    Cheers for ze input comrades.

Hutch reacted to Hutch in Cannot reattach modular connector (rear passenger door wiring)
About 20 attempts later! In the end I had to remove vacuum tube, gently press connector home, pray, dance, invoke things, and it made contact. Not easy! Then push vacuum tube in after. *sigh*

Hutch got a reaction from VR6Pete in Rear nearside speaker / tweeter dead...
Hey Michael you were absolutely right! Just behind the modular plug there are 2 broken wires and one 'nicked' one that's about to go. It's dark out and I wasn't able to get the plug back in, so I've had to leave the car unlocked until I can see what I'm doing.

If you have any advice on how to get that plug re-attached (it seems one needs super small fingers!) I'd appreciate it.

As far as the wires go, I'll find out how to take the door cards off and get that part of the loom out and do some repairs.

    Cheers!

Hutch got a reaction from VR6Pete in My brake fluid cap has a protuberance
That's gotta be the first time I've typed 'protuberance' in a forum. So yea I'm buying this Highline and doing a few little jobs on it, and the brake fluid reservoir looks odd, see?:

I'm assuming that part of the cap has come off. Do I need to replace this 'urgently' or will it work just fine as-is for now?

    Thankingyou

Gents, the 36mm worked a treat. Amazing how effective using the correct tool is! New filter in, new o-ring on, car re-filled with oil.

    Thanks for the help.
