It could be the valve on the evap canister - this makes a tapping sound and can be quite loud if you've only been driving around town or doing short journeys. I'd put some decent petrol in it and take it for a longer 50 to 100 mile trip. See if that makes a difference?

mattvr6 got a reaction from Flylow in 2.8 24v vr6 turbo - limitation of standard vr stroke?
2.8s are stronger than 32s bottom end are good for around 400 other than that ur gonna need some hard ward plus reliability

mattvr6 got a reaction from blackwookie in 2003 v6 4motion
Regrettably my pride and joy is going up for sale, she's a 2003 4motion 2.8 bde engine in rare anthracite blue pearl only a handful of these were produced and hard to come by, she's done 88000 will go up as I'll still be using it and I'm the 3rd owner
I've had her 2 years coming up and have carried out what ever it's needed as well as mods that I wanted doing which are as follows
Powerful mid section with standard rear box has a lovely rasp,
Decat pipe
25mm h&r springs
Poly bush top mounts, anti roll bar bushes, dog bone mount and rear trailing arm bushes.
Quantum tuning remap
Drilled and grooved brakes all round with Brembo sport pads
3x sets of wheels, standard branshatch, 17" Santa Monica's just been refurbished and a set of Porsche 996 twists also just been refurbished
Toyo proxes t1rs 225/45/17
Just had full front end respray to get rid of a few stone chips, gloss black mirror backs, grill front and rear valances, carbon wrapped roof and fuel flap. Body work is excellent and very straight with only minor blemished, snow foamed washed and polished on a weekly basis
Interior is red/black cloth recaros in very good condition no rips or tares, carbon wrapped wood inserts
Hid kit and number plate lamps
Service history, just had oil change, service before that all filters inc plugs were changed a long with a high flow simota panel filter
Full 4motion service inc diff/gearbox oil 75/90 fully synthetic oil used,
Had a new clutch at 86000 along with the gearbox end bearing just for peace of mind while the box was out (common issue on the 6 speeds)
New inlet manifold change over valve not to long ago
Only small issues are the a/c compressor is slightly noisy when ac is off (always on when I'm in it) and sometime remote locking doesn't always work but does on doors.
No timing chain issues and no correlation faults when check with vagcom
Overall a lovely example of dying breed of car
By trade I'm a Vag technician so the car has been maintained to the highest quality
Genuine reason is I have a little one on the way so a bigger car is needed
Please feel free to contact me 07580118939
Asking for £3000 Ono

mattvr6 reacted to VR6 Supercharged in Original paintwork or resprayed does it matter ?
Bit harsh to say it may have had a front end smash... If this where to be the case so long as everything lines up etc then happy days? I would be more inclined to say that the previous owner looked after the car and didn't want any stone chips etc on the bumper or bonnet. Wings wise? We all know they can suffer from rust at the bottoms, whether it be a MK3, 4 or 5. So its probably safe to say this is the reason/reasons for fresh paint. That said, its now pushing on in years (I own a 95 MK3 VR6, so I'm not saying your car is old by any means) so I challenge anyone to show me a car of that vintage that's NOT had paint work... Just my thoughts...

So is it over heating? The fans run at a low speed when the ac is on then come on when it gets to a certain temp, normally they don't work at all common fault with them control units, as for the oil leak ideas on where it's coming from,?!

Damn right it's worth doing!! Not many in that colour either, timing chain is a serviceable part like anything if the oil changes have been neglected it won't last as long as one that hasn't, it will have an obvious scratching type noise from the gear box side as its on that side on these

It's defiantly worth servicing the haldex mate.. I'm way over the top with mine as I change bothe oil & filter every 10k or 12mth which every comes sooner. Anyway the usual is oil every 20 & both every 40k.
I've adapted my filling point with a custom snap fix set up, makes life so much easier & dont spill a drop??
