As my car is currently sorn im taking this opportunity to go through the car and do a few things id been putting off. So i get to the front brakes and notice that the pads look to big and has an area along the bottom about 5mm wide that doesnt touch the disk. The car is a 1996 highline, so should have the 288mm set up, correct? but the disks are 280mm. are the calipers noticeably different between the two disk sizes? how can i tell which i have? Is it even possible to have mongrel brakes like this or am i being mental and missing something blindingly obvious? Thanks

Thanks for the advice so far. Put the old battery on it and it started fine, the new one was dead flat. The garage said the alternator was fine when it went in but now the alternator light doesnt come on when i turn on the ignition. From what I gather it should come on and stay on if the battery isnt being charged, so why isnt it coming on at all? Once again, any advice is very much appreciated.

Went out for a drive today and after about half an hour the radio lost power and the engine started to struggle, had to thrash the crap out of it to stop it stalling. I had to slow right down to turn into my road which caused it to stall but it came back to life briefly which gave me enough to coast to a stop just outside my house. Before it stalled, the oil light and handbrake light came on and now it wont start. It was in the garage a couple of weeks ago for this same problem, the only thing they found was a dirty terminal on the ecu, no faults and everything working as it should. Problem
