  1. Just looked again it has an OBD1 throttle body but a few of the other OBD2 sensors and is coil pack ignition. This being the case, I think Il end up going standalone..
  2. Ive just had a look and it also seems to have a knock sensor above the rear engine mount.
  3. Ok I now have a VR6/rad/ecu/engine loom.. it came from a 95 car. It seems to be running coil packs on the fly wheel end of the engine, no distributor. Im presumig ths is OBD1 not OBD2. When did the the key transponder to ECU immobiliser come in.. was that 97? If it was 95 il have to get onto the guy who I bought this from asap for the key. Thanks for the reply Kev, and yes this is for building up and running on a stand/bench testing. Seems quite common in the states with v8's in the hot rod world.
  4. Thanks for the answers guys. To make the vr6 runnable out of the car am i right in thinking all il need is engine loom, Ecu, coolant hoses, expansion tank and key barrel (if its young enough to have a factory immobiliser).
  5. In terms of the engines them selves physically is there little or no difference? Ive noticed a lot of OBD1's about whioh are pretty cheap which would leave more money for upgrades. Also is there any diff between a Sharan AAA engine and a Golf ?
  6. Guys, Im looking out for an engine at the mo, which im going to build up as a turbo. Im probably going to make a hot runable stand so I build the engine up and Iron out problems with it beofre i put it under a bonnet. I know the ignition system is different but is there any real advantage or disadvantage between an OBD1 and OBD2 unit when it comes to charging?
  7. Thanks mate have read his thread and it looks fun.. If I have no other answers il try jim via pm
  8. Hi Guys, Ive recently joined, Ive always had a daily driver of some form of GTI be it mk2 or nk3 gti and have been loaned vr6 between cars. I currently own a mk3 gti, I dont drive every day as i get the train to work. Ive previuosly built an MI16 205 for a fun car having had other german "cars" along the way. I had to loose my MI16 205 when I moved into my new house 4 years ago but have now sorted my garage ready for something else. IM looking for few answers around building a VR6turbo. I miss that home grown thing. Can any one tell me what their insurance is roughly..Im 33 living in kent. id
