  1. I have 16" beetle steelies with 20mm spacers all round. I need new tyres. Currently have 195/40/16 on each wheel, but thinking of going 45 with wider on the rear? 195/45/16 front? 205/45/16 rear? Whats the norm?
  2. Bought one from awesome and it is 65mm x 19mm? I thought the original was much bigger?
  3. I have a N plate VR6. I currently have 16/42/6.5J beetle steelies with 145/40/16 rubber. The car is lowered. I went to get the car lazer align and was shown by the guy just how badly buckled the wheels are, so we have posponed it until I replace the wheels. Iam guessing 45s will protect the wheels better? but if I am going to replace the wheels was wondering what 17" look like on mk3 and if there is even a 17" steely with the same pattern. One other question, I have 25mm spacers all the way, but not sure if 30mm (Iam told the Eibach 30mm MkV spacers will fit the Mk3) on the rear would look bet
  4. I guess I would spend around £10k (but not in one go), I am a bike person (commute on my R1 every day) and me and the mrs have a bmw that I hate as are main car, in fact I dont really like any modern cars, think the new VW R golf is horrible. The VR6 is a car I have loved since I was a kid, I love the noise and the fact it is a bit mad so its a keeper for me. Searched for a long time for her and she is a beauty. One owner, totally original, full VWSH. Amazing it was £33k new and only cost me £1800!
  5. Iam now in a position financially to spend some cash on my VR6 and get it sorted. At the moment it is as per my signature. I have removed all the interior and over summer Iam going to completely strip the inside, dash etc and just use it mainly on the track. Read stuff about 6 speed gear box, straight through system, engine work and obviously gonna need some proper suspension??? I can take the engine out no prob. Any ideas as Iam no expert but I will NEVER sell this car as I love it so happy to sink some money into her. Richard
  6. After the manifold are there 4 sections? 1.the cat with pipe either side 2.pipe 3.huge suitcase type muffler 4.back box?
  7. All standard bushes have been replaced with powerflex, new coilovers and gear box mount replaced with standard. I think it is just a case of any flex now being transferred from the new ultra-stiff areas to the not so stiff (standard) areas, ie the front engine mount and rear engine mount, both which are standard and 70k miles old... Think Iam gonna replace with the vibra-technics ones. Rear is £78 front is £125! Lets hope the standard gear box mount lasts. I assume VR call this the 'Powertrain Mount'?
  8. Anyone bought one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK3-GTI-EXHAUST-BACK-BOX-STRAIGHT-FIT_W0QQitemZ110433373401QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item19b6578cd9&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  9. Are there two rear engine mounts (L & R), one front mount and one gear box mount ?????
  10. Do you think a main dealer would diagnose the problem without actually charging me for the work, cause the so called VW specialist I have been to doesn’t seem to know shit. After driving the car I was told it was defo the gear box mount. I changed this, it was only £20 and easy to fit so no drama, but it is still knocking. Took it back and he said change the other mounts…not really a diagnostic… Trying to figure whats wrong with no ramp and no jacks at present and with the car lowered it is a pain especially with so little time on my hands at the moment. I just want someone to tell me w
  11. Was gonna replace the 4 VW speaker/tweeter set up with: 4 x Pionner TS-C171PRS - £440 Pioneer PRS-D420 - £295 (I have no parcel shelf as have no rear interior, just the rear side panels for the speakers).
  12. Checked anti role bar, tight, not checked driveshafts so will do that tom aft...cheers guys...
  13. Took it to a local Leeds based VW specialist who had it on ramp and checked over everything (apparently) said it was the gear box mount and driver side tie rod that were both shot (car only has 70k miles on it though). Parts were cheap so I bought and replaced both...still knocking bad... Basically knocking when braking hard or accelerating hard... When its raining its not as loud... PLEASE HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!
  14. I only want a back box as I am having a link pipe made straight to the manifold. It would appear you can only buy Milltek back boxes with link pipe and centre section, and that costs a fortune.
  15. Scorpion Twin £183 Magnex Twin £179 Remus Twin £255 ??????????????
  16. Ok I wound them all down to the lowest they can go (around 1cm from max) as the adjuster catches on metal brake hose clip that clams to the shock. The sump is only 1" off the floor so I am thinking wind them up to give 4"- 5" sump clearance for safety?
  17. HI Matt Cheers for the reply. What are the two points that give you the measurement?
  18. Got as per spec in signature. Anyone know the lowest I can go without me having to mess about with the wheel on and off testing?
  19. £15, that seems reasonable, will sort that out. What about the other end? Do I bypass the senser tube or link it to that, again useing some silicone hose cause that tubing that comes with it does not fit over the engine end of the filter.
