  1. and that'l work on obd1? not sure what connector the car has got.
  2. Right... Ive cleaned the MAF and throttle body with the cleaner from Halfords... Still not accelerating as fast as it shud! :-( I had a Volvo s40 and mazda 6 2.2 pulling away from me until it picked up for a brief moment.. i shud have blitz them. i think the gti would keep up at the mo. And it stalled twice slowing down into second again. AAAARRRGGHH! Im wondering if the induction filter maybe doing more bad instead of good by drawing in hot air, engine bay was rather warm when opened the bonnet after but would it have that much affect? iv been looking at vagcom but abit stuck... found downl
  3. is the smoke black? maybe too much oil.. might not be that simple as nothing ever is! lol
  4. Bentley? is that the author? i couldnt find a 6cyl haynes one.
  5. Halfords will be getting a visit 2moz from me then... Cheers. Hopefully it will sort it... but all avenues will be looked at and all help and suggestions are really appreciated. many like minded heads are better than one numpty still learning. lol :$
  6. Is this the right stuff?? the £3.29 one. The CRC stuff can only be bought from the states it seems..... http://www.maplin.co.uk/CONTACT_CLEANER.search

  8. if you've got access to a mk3 16v you could also try swapping the coil to the vr - the plugs will fit - in case the 17yr old one is on it's way out. Have a look in members rides an projects....... VR6 and 16v...... more than just them pictured lol. I never thought of that... i knew the 2 top end mk3 shared alot but would tht really work??... 4cyl coilpack and 6cyl dizzy, im not sure.. and if it did ... the missus would have a fit! :S would it work???
  9. Will do... i totally forgot about membership discounts! £40 is for a vag-com diagnostics reader... from Gendan.co.uk/pvw Most ive found tho are for 1996 models onwards... Also found something at BSRUK.co.uk
  10. Ok no worries. Ive seen them advertised around £40 on the back cover of PVW. maybe a worthwhile investment. Would it work for a 1997 GTI 16V aswell? I wanna make sure both motors are running sweet for the Volksfest/ Run to the Sun Bash... Its some few hundred miles!!
  11. Top man.... do you think i should replace the fuel filter aswell? after reading on here about a VR Ibiza with similar probs that was suggested as the culprit.... The only downside about getting another car that isnt Brand New, is the fault finding of silly annoying problems!! lol :^) :S
  12. It a cylidrical bit of plastic with 1 centre plug and 6 around it on the side of the block. is a coilpack the rectangular type? I thought about cleaning the MAF and throttle body and will now be done, could get dirty as it has a pipercross fiter attatched.. that will be cleaned too. I have some replacement HT leads so would it be wise to replace the plugs aswell? I am a dub head :-p but this is my first VR... totally different breed! lol (6) The car has done just under 93k
  13. This has just started to happen... Starting the car takes a min then when you set off it pulls back ( i had a kangaroo effect today with foot flat on floor). When it clears the acceleration is awesome but then pulls back after 2-3 seconds and just seems really under-powered. The handbrake light flashes when booting it. when stationary: Idle falls then goes back up to 'normal' several times in a minute Most serious case so far linked with this is when i have slowed for a roundabout, braking and clutch depressed, go for 2nd and the car has stalled....No power steering or anything! I had put Red
