  1. Hi Did a search apologies. Couple of weeks ago Golf Mk3 VR6 started to act funny - at low revs - 2000 rpm, particularly noticeable in 2nd gear, taking foot off accelerator, it's as if the engine is going to cut out, foot back on gas, the revs come back up very suddenly with a noticeable bang/jolt - it's making driving in town traffic a simultaneous random/seat of the pants experience as it really does feel for a few seconds that the engine has cut out and the car behind is just gonna go into me! I've sprayed mass air flow with contact cleaner, cleaned and re-oiled K&N panel filter (which w
  2. Hi Thanks for reply - I got some replacement leads (Bosch) - however, when I tried to take the offending lead out, it pulled out of the head, which stayed on the plug - so have ordered the tool... Cheers
  3. Spot on - I took each lead off in turn and started her up - 2nd lead off (from left on top of pack) off and it cleaned up instantly - took it for a test drive with the lead off and it flew (like it used to!) - Is it wise to replace the lot, or just replace the one lead? (they were put on at last service last Jan) - the make is BBT - means nothing to me.... I take it I will have to take the engine cover off to replace? Also, is there any damage caused by running it without one HT attached? Cheers!
  4. I finally got round to doing the JB Weld hack on my coil pack - it's def better, only the car is still running like a bag of nails - loads of vibration on idle, chugging away like a tractor it is! Struggling to pull like it used to, particularly at low speed - not picking up at all..... Going to try cleaning the throttle body see if that helps Meh,,,,,,,,,,
  5. So I've got a coil pack giving me a pretty good light show when sprayed with a mist of water - what are my best options - attempt epoxy repair or replace? Would it be a good idea to replace HT leads and plugs at the same time, and any reccos for good kit? Check the wee video link:
  6. Doesn't seem bad? I really don't need it to be the head
  7. Car has been stationary for 2 weeks - started this morning fine - half way through drive to work, noticed it struggling in low revs 1st and 2nd, then clean - back to home this eve, same again only with a couple of noticeable 'knocks' from rear of car and smell of (possibly) coolant? When idling feels very much like when a 2 stroke engine starts to 4 stroke and 'machine guns' Any immediate thoughts? Do Golf VR6 have coil packs?
  8. Sorry if posted in wrong section - can anyone recommend a good independent mechanic in Aberdeen (or immediate area) - for VR6 related work? I have a weird low grumbling noise from steering at low speed which seems to be progressively worse, although this isn't affecting handling at speed as far as I can tell. Pulls to the left quite a bit (don't they all?) and probably need timing chain doing soon as approaching 96K Have heard of someone good in Torry, but can't remember his name, or even who told me!! Thanks in advance Jason
  9. Well the garage in stirling needed to replace the wheel stub axle too as bearing had melted onto it - £300 - so the car owes me over a grand in 6 weeks - feck To be fair the MD of the garage that carried out the work said come down and see me when I rang him - I went in on Saturday, he had the other rear wheel nearside off and checked the bearing securing nut for tightness, said it was fine. I can't prove that it was them and they won't admit liability, but he was good about it and said he wanted to restore my faith in them So I asked for a full service, plus they clean the throttle body hous
  10. .......and capture this last night!
  11. cheers have spoken to consumer advice line in the first instance - waiting for garage to call me
  12. to add on the original garage replaced: rear brake discs and pads O/S/R brake caliper Both hub bearings Both ABS rings
  13. Last night I was zooming down to Glasgow for a gig. Just before turn off onto M90 the car went sharply to right, steering wheel felt like it had been taken from me, at first I put it down to slight adverse camber as I was going down a hill at speed and sudden gust of wind. However, steering felt funny so pulled over, suspected a flat but everything fine so carried on. After about 5 miles there were two loud clonking noises from O/S/R and squealing, followed by loud grinding noise - couldn't pull over as was in contraflow at roadworks, but got off after another couple of miles at low speed. Pu
  14. Just ordered front Highline badge through Specialist Cars, Aberdeen - £15.72 inc VAT. Better price than any ebay seller I can find at present. Cheers
