Timing Chain replacement part numbers (1997 OBD 2)

LUK is the standard clutch that is in them. Ive put down GSF part number as i dont know the LUK part number for it and its a place to start from. This is the info with regards to the chains: The OBD1 uses a double-row upper chain, a two-piece tensioner rail (consisting of a separate friction plate riveted to a metal backing) and a tensioner bolt that relies solely on oil pressure to apply force to the tensioner rail. The later OBD2 engines use a single-row chain, a single-piece, dense polymer tensioner rail and a tensioner bolt that uses both spring tension and oil pressure to apply force to t -

VR6Nat replied to VR6Nat's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
yeah i didnt put it on cuz gsf arent clear on the part number so im goin to call vw tomorrow and get hold of the genuine part number.... what about gearbox oil? any recommendations? and how much do i need? and how much coolant do i need? can we drain the system and start with all fresh stuff plz??? -
Thanks, I will do mate, ive started a list of part numbers now, of all the bits im gonna be using.... so might come in handy to some of you guys in the future (but i hope not for your sake) Ill let you know how i get on....
-
yeah thats a good list to work through, the coilpack cracking is very common, Id start with leads, plugs, colipack, then maf, try running it without the maf on and see if it improves, make sure all your plugs and leads are in snug (can just be a silly thing sometimes) Then have a good look round the coilpack (try plugging urs into someone elses if you have someone that has a vr near by) if not then move onto the other things..... Good luck!!

Right guys here is a list of the part numbers i believe im gonna need. Now these may be wrong and please feel free to tell me and i will change it, but i thought this may help others in the future to so worth starting a new thread..... Timing Chain replacement items: (Genuine VW parts) Upper timing chain: 021 109 503D Lower timing chain: 021 109 465B Upper Guide: 021 109 513 Lower Guide: 021 109 469 Upper Tensioner: 021 109 509E Lower Tensioner: 021 109 467 Piston Tensioner: 021 109 507B Clutch Kit -228mm: LUK: R-623119700 - GSF part number Engine Oil: Quantum synta silver semi synthetic 10w

you had a look at the coilpack to see if its cracked?
-
and i believe, if im right in thinking that mine still has 2 chains, 2 guides, 2 tensioners and 1 tensioner bolt that will need replacing, all of a cost of around 200 for genuine vw (personally i wouldnt use anythin else cheaper or not) I am going to start a thread of parts needed to make sure i have the right stuff so look out for that if you want to know what you need to get,.....
-
well i was planning on getting all the bits and seeing if they need it, if on the off chance they dont then i can take the bits back, but i dont expect to be that lucky and they do sound rattly, i dont know how bad they are as ive not heard them at their worst for a good comparison. All im thinkin is it will have to be done one day and id rather do it now then risk leaving it another 10k and running the risk of it going bang on me, id be devastated, my opinion is prepare for the worst and if the reult is that i only have to put in a couple of bits then ill be mega happy. Also im goin for the

Yeah, i did say i wanted a new one.... i wouldnt put anythin second hand on my car unless i kinda have to.... and i thought i have already said before what ive been quoted, but ill put it on here anyway... £820 from a vw 'specialist' £700 from another vw specialist £500 from 2 different forum members (these prices include a new clutch and all genuine parts)
-
nope, between us we prob ate less than just one of the guys!!! :) lol
-
awwww, bless ya ben, propa little 'fixer' aint ya.... seeing as im tiny and can fit into kids clothes does that mean i get to pay kids rate??? lmao!! Only jokin btw!!
-
Is LUK what they put in as standard, cuz thats what someone told me but i didnt know if it was true or not, cuz if it is then its worth it to me, 2 garages that i went to both quoted me on a LUK clutch but i was just gonna go with sachs as ive heard they're better.... ooooooooooohhhhh decisions!!!! :@

damn thats expensive!! i thought they were closer to 100.... i might just get a LUK one then as i can get a new one from GSF for 80 then 10% VR6OC discount... makes sense i think...???
-
