I've had a similar problem when there was a leak in a boot. Central Locking Pump would get wet and start playing around whenever it switches itself on. I sorted the leak in a boot, dried the whole pump out and problem stopped.

Have you tried Haynes?

Can you hear the sound of the motor working? Does the window go at least up? Could be the cable, it splits and doesn't let the motor to wind it in correctly.

I've just done the swap into my 1995 Cabrio and needed only the engine wiring plus ECU. Headlight loom was the same.
