  1. The vr6 (AAA) doesn't have variable valve timing, so its not a problem we'd see. Glad you got it sorted though
  2. Thanks for the offer mate, need to find some locally I think. Ordered 3 separate lights through the post and they all have had broken adjusters!
  3. Have you considered doing a leak down test? Might pinpoint the problem if you've tried everything 'outside' of the engine.
  4. Have a read of this, could be of some help; http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17978/P1570/005488
  5. Should be around the back of the throttle body, number 1 in the image below
  6. Been a '94 car it will have an idle stabilisation valve, this may need cleaning out and/or replacing. Other than that, I'd get the fault codes read if possible-you can pick up generic code readers cheap off eBay.
  7. As title says, let me know what you have. Needs to be in good working condition, keep getting ones with broken adjusters!
  8. Sounds like your after a highline. Take a look on eBay, seen a few on there recently
  9. If its pink, i'd say its got G12++ as G13 is more of a purple colour. Regarding the leak, I'd focus around the thermostat housing area under the coilpack, there's a lot of plastic parts and joins there that can start to leak, especially with how old these mk3's are getting now.
  10. If its just the expansion reservoir thats low, you could get away with just topping it up with some water for now. Regarding what type of coolant, what colour is your currant coolant? G13 would be fine, but its best not to mix different types. Also, would be worth investigating where the coolant went aswell.
  11. 13.8.14 New front splitter Received my new front splitter a couple of days ago. Decided I prefer the look of the early VR splitter with the deeper 'chin' on it. After reading into getting a replacement and having fitted a cheap copy about a year ago not last more than a month, I knew I needed to be selective. I've read a number of comments that suggest a splitter made by a firm called Retov were of reasonable quality and didn't seem to fail too quickly. A short Google of the company, and it turns out they are an Argentinian based after-market plastic body molding manufacturer, apparently m
  12. Looks like an interesting project you and your boys have taken on. Don't often see Synchro's over here so will be interested to see how this progress's.
  13. Looking very smart Dan, nice and o.e! Are they BBS RX's your running? Complement the lines of a mk3 very well.
  14. Have you considered a diy at some black handles?
  15. Think I used a 13mm socket with a little bit of electrical tape wrapped around to give a snug fit.
  16. When I did mine last year, i don't remember it been 'that' bad. I had the engine supported under the sump, and with a little wiggling maneuvered the gearbox out, took a bit of lateral thinking, but didn't have to take either of the diff cups off. When refitting I made sure I angled the gearbox the same way it came off, and it fitted much easier than I expected. Two tips I have would be to make 100% sure the clutch is aligned properly, and have someone help you with maneuvering the gearbox on and off.
  17. Replaced mine earlier this year...do what Nex said, a garage will have a proper press to fit the bearings with
  18. Have you checked your coilpack to make sure there is no cracks on it? Regarding fuel cleaner comma d-tox works ok for me
  19. Just a little update to keep this thread alive. Nothing to report in the last couple of months. Just been keeping it clean and driving it. As much as I enjoy tinkering with the VR, its nice to be able to just drive it. Doing a long run up the M1 once a week at the moment and driving at around 65 mph is returning a consistent mpg in the mid to high 30's, shame its so horrendous driving around town! Have the MOT looming at the beginning of September as well. Only thing I need to address that I'm aware of is the patch that has been welded onto the floor. I've got a few weeks off work in Augus
  20. I thought there kind of already was a cold air feed running from the air box into the side of the wing?
  21. To be honest i'd take it to a garage or somewhere you could get oxy acetylene on it. The bolts holding my cat on look equally buggered and its no fun lying on your back trying to get these sort of things off. Next port of call could possibly be to drop the lower manifolds off maybe?
