  1. Yeah its not an auto. Looks like im just gonna have to bite the bullet an get it pulled apart. Its still driveable and all the gears select fine it just slips. Not a major mechanical problem really its just annoying and sounds daft, like i'm riding the clutch
  2. Yeah i've noticed that the oil has been a bit low recently so maybe oil on the clutch. I'll take it to a different garage and get a 2nd opinion on it. No real signs of leaks though so see what happens
  3. Recently my '96 Golf vr has developed a strange problem. It feels as if the clutch is slipping but I asked my local garage to check the clutch out while it was in for some work and they said it was spot on. Yet when driving at normal speeds in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and you put your foot down the revs build up without any acceleration, before the car "catches up" to the engine and then it carries on as normal, only rises by about 500rpm but still its not right. Its only started doing it recently and seems to do it more when the car is run from cold. But if it isn't the clutch what else could it be?
  4. Ah well if thats the best size to go for i'm in luck then. The wheels I currently have on have nearly brand new set of parada spec-2s in 205/40ZR17. Should be a trip to kwik fit and a swap over then. Many Thanks Nick
  5. Buying a set of polished tt comp wheels an just wondering what size tyres would be the best bet. They take 225s but would it be best to get 215s perhaps or will there be no rubbing issues or otherwise with 225s. Cheers
  6. Dunno when it was last serviced, only had the car 2 months and didn't come with any history, been meaning to put it in for one but had other bits and bobs to sort out
  7. Yeah I was looking into new plugs and leads but thanks yeah i'll have a look into the other stuff but unfortunately don't know anyone with VAG com. Ill see if the plugs etc sort it out and try vag com if it persists
  8. The engine on my '96 VR seems really sluggish up to 4k rpm. I got overtaken by my mates 1.9hdi Peugeot today. Just doesn't seem to be as blistering as a VR6 should be. Could this be solved by some new plugs and replacing the MAF sensor or could it be something else, any help would be appreciated, cheers guys
  9. Oh yeah so it is, only cars registered after 2001 will incur the rise in tax, so looks like good news for the vr6 owners and not so good news for most of the r32 and 4motion owners then
  10. This new budget theyre bringing in next year is based on co2 emissions. The beloved VR6 being very lucky really, it slots into group J with 199g/km meaning the tax will rise to £260 a year in 2009 and £270 after 2010. 2g/km higher and it would have risen to £300!! The new tax bands can be found here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm And this site finds the co2 emissions of your car model http://www.smmtco2.co.uk/co2search2.asp
  11. Sorry try this one instead www.performancedirect.co.uk wrong link haha
  12. Try www.performancedirect.com, thats who I got that quote off. Just went into the "performance cars" section and filled everythin in
  13. I have 17s on mine and the rade can be a bit jarry over the sharper bumps but they do suit the lines of the car well
  14. Ohhhh yes, it wouldn't suprise me if the previous owner had shares in the place, with that universal exhaust, badging and questionable ICE
