  1. I have a 1997 VR6 and at low speeds I can hear a sort of creaking noise from the front end whilst doing slow speed turns. I have had the suspension top mounts replaced in the last 6 months. Any other ideas as to what it could be??
  2. The VW garage are talking rubbish when they say you should not fit a second hand one. I got a fully working second hand one for about £100 on my old Mark 3 GTi and you can get a reconditioned one for not much more. I was told a new pump would have been about £400 but I'm sure they would bump the price up for a VR6 because they can. I know the Corrado ABS pump is well over a grand so wouldn't surprise me if the Golf was is the price you were quoted.

    need help

Ebay will have loads as I have bought them from there before.
  4. Just thought I would post to say how impressed I have been with a company called Vagtech in recent months. The are based near to Milton Keynes / Leighton Buzzard and do servicing and tuning for VAG vehicles. The staff there are happy to speak to you at length about problems with your car and they also do free diagnostic checks. I recently had my 4 wheel alignment done there and the difference it has made to my car is massive after a previous supposed "specialist" did not do a very good job. Tim
  5. Not true. Even most of the patrol Astra's have toughened suspension and heavy duty brakes/battery. Apparently some of the new Vectra Diesels are getting remapped too.
  6. Have had my 1997 VR6 for about a month now and it has two chips that will more than likely be an MOT fail when it's due in January. I contacted my insurance company as I have windscreen cover and they stated that as the damage was there when I bought the car they will not cover me for it. Seems a bit strange but not much I can do about it. I think that the chips are a little bit to big to repair and upon speaking to a few companies it seems that it doesn't cost much more to have a brand new screen as they charge about £40 per chip repair anyway, Can anyone recommend a decent windscreen fitte

    Insurance

Just got my insurance with Bell for £486 for the year. I'm 26 with 7 years NCB and no accidents/convictions. Was the cheapest around and not bad for a VR6 highline. I also have the hire car cover and personal accident cover too. Tim
  9. I have just purchased a 1997 Golf VR6 Highline and it has the dreaded rust patches forming on the O/S rear arch and the N/S front arch. Can anyone recommend a decent bodyshop in the Milton Keynes area or close by that will do a decent job on them. Also what kind of price am I looking at for the work? Thanks in advance. Tim
  10. In a few weeks I am going to be picking up my 1997 VR6 Highline and I just wanted to confirm the engine oil and coolant I should be using in it. Am I right in saying that I should use Synta Silver 10w 40 from VW as well as G12 coolant? Can anyone tell me how roughly how much each of these items are for a specified quantity? Thanks in advance. Tim
  11. If its still for sale I am going to view this one next week [link]http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/234986.htm Is priced at £3500 but I would only be prepared to pay about £3000 for it. Think its well worth a look though. Tim
  12. There are one's available for sale on Auto Trader and Pistonheads that are not Highlines and have air con though.
  13. I ideally want a mystic blue or black one. I'm not bothered about a Highline one but I do want air-con. There doesn't seem to be many suitable ones that haven't been messed about with for sale at the moment though.
  14. This one is a little cheaper too and a nice colour [link]http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/217833.htm
