    For a road car you will not be able to run your car without the expansion tank ,not for long anyway,you'll need to keep top up with coolant or have your fans running all the time.

    If you never have this problem before the plugs and leads then I would have a look at thoes first.Have you replaced them with the right parts?

    Take the spark plugs out and check to see if they are oily .Check for air leaks.
