  1. we have a scorpion twin 3" dtm on the mrs' vr, gotta be one of the best vr's i've heard...although i'm maybe gonna try a longlife side exit on my vr very soon
  2. they'll look great for a while, but all it takes is 1 stone chip then the alloy is exposed to oxidation, then the whole lot'll have to come off!! what wheels are they??
  3. get a price from pureklas then pm me, you won't be disappointed if you want to see some pics, look here - http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v292/steveg60cab/alloypolishingservices/
  4. i just fitted a new (2nd hand) TB i bought from one of the forum members, the old problem being a fault with the idle reg and it kept stalling, but now, with the new TB the revs are running on all the time, which is very dangerous as when you throttle off, it keeps going!! i had a fault code check and had them cleared, but the problem persists. is this TB faulty too or is there some way of sorting it out?? btw, the idle speed is around the 1000rpm mark
  5. sounds like you've got it jezmoz, i hope this setup works ok, so far so good, but i'm also taking it for diagnostics next week to see what faults come up. it's nowhere near as punchy as the mrs' vr, but her's has also got a cat-back scorpion exhaust, whereas mine has a crappy £50 backbox!! it is going better now too, since i moved the air mas meter closer to the TB, and found there was 1.5" of slack in the throttle cable!! lol
  6. i've had a good look at her now, she's running an obd1 manifold and TB, but the obd2 engine, has this been done the right way as i'm a little concerned about this mix n match being a little wrong somehow??
  7. uh-oh, so it's been converted then!!?? i heard it was a hard thing to convert an obd1 to obd2, is there any problems i should look for ie. non compatible parts?? one thing i have noticed is that if i have my lights, heaters and wipers on, i turn the ignition off but everything still works, i turn the headlights off and so does everything else :S cheers guys!
  8. i've just insured mine with brentacre, i got fully comp for £300, i'm 33(tomorrow!! lol) with no points and max ncb...i do know the owner though, but i'm sure they'll give you the best deal
  9. a couple of months ago i bought a 94 m-reg vr6 golf, one of the things i was looking for was a low mileage obd2 cos they don't have the camchain troubles, anyway, there's subtle differences between mine and the mrs' vr which i thought was strange, her's is a 96 n-reg, but when i did an oilchange last week i discovered the engine had come from a breakers, and now my low mileage vr seems not to be little things like a TB switch for closed throttle position, different pipe to the TB, the clocks take a while to register fuel and water temps - slow like mk2 guages, and tbh it is nowhere near as fa
  10. thanks pete, my reputation is little known on the net as i don't brag myself up, but, yup i did do sal's comps paul, without giving too much away, start with an angle grinder, then a sander then wet and dry to 1200 grit, the secret is go easy on the angle grinder or you'll have a ripply finish, to finish use polishing mops with med+fine compounds...then as an amateur, set aside 25 hours
  11. cheers paul, well i do this for a living and it took me 10-12 hours labour, you still want to know??? lol
  12. god, i must love my mrs, either that or i love her vr!! after a years ownership now, too many things were going wrong with her car, waterpump was p'ing out with water, TB needed changing cos there was a constant idling problem which could only be fixed with wiping the fault codes, and some a55wipe bumped the front wing and drove off!!! not being the sort of person to go to a garage, i set about doing the work myself. i thought if i was changing the TB, i might aswell polish the manifold at the same time, and if i was going to that trouble i might aswell change the waterpump too, and if the fr
