  1. nice analogy dude! ..also, she has been on the vagcom and showing no error codes....
  2. She's done 110k and has just been serviced (though only fluid and filters, not plugs, leads etc..but would this have a big impact on torque?) also, whats a hall sensor and how would this impact on torque? thanks for the replies fellas...
  3. ok, thanks to some fettling the old girl is back up to standard bhp but torque is still way down at 140 lb/ft. she is '96 obd2 with ram air and de-cat pipe, other than that totally standard. pre above mods she was only pushing 163bhp but now has a healty 174bhp. Torque hasn't increased 1 iota though, so i have a couple of questions: 1. what is torque? 2. what elements make up the torque equation? i.e what can i focus on/ influence 3. where / why is she down so much on the standard figure? all help muchly appreciated folks! thanks
  4. right, i'm back from a couple of days down south in leafy Guildford having some work done on the VR by Tim and the bunch at The Phirm and thought i'd post a bit of feedback... ..in a word, Superb! the most rewarding experience i've had in having work carried out on my dubs... and for those that know me, i've had quite a bit done in the past! From my initial phone call, Sam sorting me out accomodation, meeting some of their mates /customers for a few bevvies (steve, paul, As..nice meeting you fellas), a passenger experience i'll never forget in Sam's car!!!! (6), and not forgetting the time, p
  5. what a couple of days! ...absolutely spot on set of lads, cracking cars and what can i say about The Phirm that hasn't already been said...beltin' ..for the record, 600 quid secured no oesophegeal reflex whatsoever.... ..i also felt like stir fried chicken flaps on the Wednesday morning... must have been that last pint :-p hope to bump into you fellas again on the circuit Aaron
  6. evenin all, i'm staying in leafy Surey tonight (down from Chester) whilst Tim at the Phirm plays with my car... .. a few of their mates/customers are meetin at the princess royal hotel in farnham..anyone from here going?
  7. If your going back to a bare shell I'd sell the VR and buy a shedded gti...... the difference in pennies should pay for some of the proposed goodies! I'm not aware of any majordifferences between the gti shell and the VR6 shell...
  8. What you having done? Let me know what you've got/colour etc...wouldn't mind a nosey whilst I'm down there! I'm going down early Tuesday morning, staying overnight and travelling back Wednesday night. I'll be fcuked for work on Thursday but i'm well used to it after travelling between the North West, Nottingham and Somerset for the MK2!!
  9. I've gto 205/40/17's on mine and running at 30-32psi all round.
  10. i think your all being a bit harsh tbh, the blokes obviously spent alot of time and money on his car...something we all do. he has just chosen to go down a different route.... .... the route of a spotty 18yr old chav with a taste bypass and on first name terms with mr.visa and mr.mastercard.... :-p what a f***ing disgrace!
  11. cheers mk3 anni, i was abit of a victim of the "..just replace everything and balls to the expense" syndrome with the MK2 so am taking thinks a little more slowly this time around. I've got her booked in at The Phirm next Tuesday (the 26th)for them to run some diagnostics and hopefully get her back to standard performance sharpish! ...once she's fettled i have big plans for the old girl.. (6)
  12. Bloke on the 'bay of tranquility is selling a second hand full KONI setup - off a MK2 Jetta. his blurb says the kit will also fit all MK2 and MK3 golfs.....which he confirmed via e-mail. Could anyone let me know if he's tarking out of his starfish before I aprt with my hard earned please? Thanks
  13. hahaha lol! ...the term "bang per buck" was not a term widely used when doing the valver! 8-) although 1500 quid was spent on suspension and cosmetics..... ... like the sound of 400bhp though (6)
  14. Cheers fella. no, the specialists didn't run a diagnostic - just a service and RR showning the aforementioned "limp" figures! I am plannin to book the car in at Stealth on my next day off .. cosmetically the car is mint and only set me back 1400 quid so can spend a little on the performance .. i spent 7k on my mk2 at TSR and C&R respectively over a two year period .. she was putting out 168bhp and 156 llb/ft torque... i want the VR to feel better than that eventually!
  15. Picked up my '96 Highline on Thursday (had mk2 16v before)and took it to my local performance specialist for a service and once over today... ...dissapointed.... the car is putting out 163bhp and only 140llb/ft torque! It starts first time and ticks over fine, but the power delivery is poor - feels like the car is pulling through treacle (goes nowhere if i put my foot down, but the revs "catch up"after a while) I spent alot of time and money modifying my mk2 but am relatively inexperienced with these - any advice on what is going on / posible solution would be much appreciated. thanks!
