  1. Wet and dry all the way (with some wd-40).. I went up to 400 for the first part and am pleased with the result -> http://www.heerit.co.uk/vw/diy_polish.html
  2. Haven't received one from today mate...?
  3. ok sweet.. I managed to get over and see the motor.. it looks nice.. leathers/porsche alloys - but the bloke won't budge from £3000... so guna give it a miss.. I'll just have to save up a bit more...
  4. I've just had 100K service and mechanic noticed slight rattle on idle - but said nothing to worry about ye.
  5. I can only comment on the pads in the past - which have been great - I had them on my Subaru with drilled/grooved discs (standard size) and they were amazing. With regards to the goodridge hoses, I had to use an extra washer for it to fit tight with my porsche calipers but on standard they might be ok - something to watch out for.
  6. Well the ECU helps.. but the engine internals is something I ignored... looking at more rouble than it's worth unless I repair the nailed VR6?
  7. That is what I plan to do.. but want to check that I can just "transplant" the supercharger straight into mine and then obviously get it re-mapped?
  8. To remove a supercharger from another VR6 and transplant into my one? I know a breaker who is selling a 1996 OBDII VR6 with a Z1 supercharger (7K) which has had new belts. He won't sell it seperately.. and wants to shift the whole car. He wants about £3000...? Is it worth it... swap it over ans break the car myself?
  9. Are they really badly corroded? On my last service, mechanic said the same thing - I showed my dad, he cleaned them with a metal brush and copper greased them. I wasn't losing any brake feeling?
  10. I've only ever messed with an arial on older rover and that one went down the side of the car so assumed it was the same for the dub.. good luck anyway
  11. 1. If you got all the gear (cables etc) to connect your ipod to the stereo, then just drill a small hole in the back of your glove box and feed the cable through (hope your arms are skinny enough to get through the stereo hole) and connect it up. 2. I'm guessing the arial will need the headlining coming down (if it's the roof mounted one) to get to it properly and then it will probably feed along the side of the car up to the back of the stereo. Remove the front passenger seat to get better access.
  12. Just to compare, I got my proper 100K service on my 1997 and did it at a VW specialist and cost £150 including parts (plugs/oil/filters/fluids etc) and labour. The full inspection brought up a few items but mechanic said most of them can wait when I get the MOT done (gave me a voucher to get a discount from them). I will stick to specialists from now.
  13. To get it installed I reckon anwhere between £100 to £150. The stereo will be straight forward if the harness is alrady there and none of the existing wires have been chopped! The ipod unit can be linked up through the back of the glovebox to the headunit. Have a go yourself - just get an electrical tester and off you go - wait till a dry sunday and do it ont he road.
  14. Try this link...? http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/aftermarket-radio.html
  15. I take it the custom exhaust and decat look like they fit together off the car?
  16. I'm definately guna come to this - will be my first Dub event - might spend a few extra quid tarting her up!
  17. so so... got them for £375 including new pads/clips/pins with delivery.
  18. It's down to clearance - a set of 17" open spoke or multispoke are a touch cheaper but not by much and at the moment they just about clear the caliper (couple of mil spare) - I'm assuming 18" will help in that area?
  19. Guys, As the title suggests, how many of you lot are running 18" alloys? If you are, what suspension setup and have you got and have you had to do any arch work to get them in? It will obviously effect the ride quality, but is the extra inch worth it? I want to get a set to show of my porsche brakes as they are currently hidden behind the TT alloys I got and seen some Audi TT Cup's in black (with polished lip) for about £650 with tyres.. and am tempted?
  20. Can he get away with just changing the HT leads for now?
  21. Nice one - bit of apain to get the bolts on under the arch and tighten them on your own!
  22. Sorry to ask - where u get the HID kit from?
  23. Yes, I did say to the bloke who made the carriers to sort out any people I pass on his information to (aslong as you mention "Kal passed on your details.."). I'm not sure about the calipers, but they aren't that heavy - pair of them came in at about 6kg.
